Lyon Train Tix: Lyon - Geneva
Posted: Thu May 21, 2009 06:55 PM UTC
Hello!

I am trying to find out about the cost of a train ticket from Lyon to Geneva on September 15. I know this is too far out to make a reservation, but I just want an idea of the cost. Even when I use earlier dates (for comparison), I can't seem to get any pricing info. Can somebody please help me with an idea of the cost?

My husband and are planning a trip from Dallas - Milan - Geneva - Lyon. But, our plane tickets back to Dallas are $100 (USD) cheaper if we fly back from Geneva instead of Lyon. So, I am just trying to figure out if it make sense from both a money and time standpoint. Any help would be appreciated!

Happy Travels!

Lyon Lyon City Card
Posted: Fri April 24, 2009 03:43 AM UTC
A few questions about the card:

1. How much is the card if you buy it when you get in the city, as opposed to before hand online? The website says there is an online discount.

2. The card says you get unlimited free use of public transportation. Does this include funiculars and/or velo'v bicycles?

3. Has anybody used this card to take a free river cruise? If so, how long was the cruise? Did you enjoy it? Can you also take nighttime cruises, or only those during the day? And, can you use the card to take more than one free cruise (like you can do with the museums)?

4. If you buy as a student online, do you have to prove you are a student when you turn in your confirmation at the tavel bureau? If so, will a student ID from a US school work? Or, do you need to have an International Student ID?

Thank you so much for any help you can offer!

Happy travels!

Lyon best way to book train tickets via Lyon?
Posted: Sat January 24, 2009 10:06 AM UTC
Hi all,
I'd quite like to do a bit of euro-hopping by train during Easter - im thinking dates of 4th-11th april.

preferred itinerary would be roughly:
London > (stop in paris 1 night) > Lyon 1-2 nights > Lausanne/Bern 2 nights> rent a car through Swiss alps. Would probably then fly back from Bern to London!

Its quite confusing figuring out which websites to use to book such rail tickets - do you have any suggestions? Im worried about being ripped off by using sites such as rail europe or getting a pass needlessly!
Also, if i wanted to stop for a night in paris is there a ticket i can get which allows me to do so whilst still carrying on to Lyon?

if you also recommend any nice drive by locations around these areas i should check out, would love to hear about them.

appreciate any advice you guys can give!

Lyon where to stay outside Lyon
Posted: Wed January 21, 2009 01:14 AM UTC
We'd like to stay within a 45 min drive of Lyon in a smaller town (prefer a winery, bed and breakfast) in or near a small town. We have 4 days to discover Burgundy and we have a car. We will drive to Lyon for a day, but other areas too. Please recommend!

Lyon Parking for a week
Posted: Wed November 19, 2008 11:38 AM UTC
Hi. I need to park our car for our one week stay. We are staying at 6 quai Gailleton 69002 Lyon. I really don't care where we park it. I just want some place really really cheap, free. I'll park it way out and take public transportation back in if need be. Or if there are deals for a one week parking deal near our apt. that would be cool. The lady who is renting us her place said it 25 euro a day. No way are we paying that:)

Thanks.

Hello. We are coming to Lyon for a week in December. Is being near Rue St. Jean a good idea? We would like to be able to walk out to restaurants, bars, a grocery store, and be close to a metro/public transportation. We are renting an apartment. I'm looking at Chambreslyon.com I have a really bad foot and just can't walk long distances.

Thanks!

Lyon Souvenir gifts
Posted: Thu January 10, 2008 03:00 PM UTC
I was in Lyon, France last week where I used to live in my youth. I was looking for souvenirs to bring back with me as a gift for someone, but found nothing that would interest my girlfriend. I was looking for something that was typical "Lyonnais", but mostly found only soccer stuff. I look at the airport and at the Le Part Dieu shopping centre, but found nothing.

Now that I am back home, i would like to know if there is any souvenirs I can buy online. Something that would interest a girl that never been to France and doesnt speak french at all.

Lyon Personal opinions needed
Posted: Wed December 5, 2007 08:57 AM UTC
Hi everyone,
I'm planning a trip to Lyon and was just wondering if anyone could give me their personal opinions about the following tourist attractions:

·Parc de la Tete d'Or
·River Saone Cruises
·Fourviere Basilica
·Musees des tissus
·Saint Jean Cathedral

I've done some research on each of these such as visiting websites etc.
Just wanting some personal opinions of the attractions.

Merci!

P.S. I was also wondering if anyone could tel me about the quality of these two restaurants and the Park & Suite Part Dieu hotel.
MOMMESSIN RESTAURANT ET VINS
LE CANUT ET LES GONES
They look nice on the site but again i'd like some first-hand experiences.

Thanks again.
