Hi,

I'm planning to visit Marseille, France, in October and would like to know whether it is possible to go on an organised boat-tour to see the calanques during this period?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Marseille Cheap Hotel in Marseille
Posted: Sun August 24, 2008 04:05 PM UTC
Can anyone suggest a cheap but clean (and safe) hotel in Marseille, for less than 40 Euros for one person in a single room ? I don't need luxury of any kind (for example, I don't require a toilet in the room), but would like it to be a quiet place.

One of the stops on our cruise is Marseille. We have never been to this area of France and we were wondering if anybody had any suggestions of things to do during our day there? Or any surrounding areas that are easily accessible from the port?

Marseille In Marseille for 3 days. Day trip to Aix-En Provence or Avignon?
Posted: Tue July 1, 2008 10:26 PM UTC
Hi Guys,

I will be in Marseille next week and was thinking of doing a side trip to either Aix or Avignon. I know both have their distinctive characteristics, but can't really choose. Whats your suggestion?

Also, most importantly, what is the best way to get from Marseille to the Aix Centre without going via the Aix TGV station? I see that Aix has its own train station right in town, but it seems that no trains from Marseille go to it? Only to the TGV station and then have to change to a bus. Please help...many thanks!

Marseille train travel from Marseille to Cassis to Nice
Posted: Sat June 14, 2008 10:25 PM UTC
I'm trying to figure out the most economical mode of travel from Marseille to Cassis and from Marseille to Nice. Does the metro link Marseille to Cassis and Nice or is it necessary to purchase a ticket with one of the long distance trains?

Marseille marseille for 3 days
Posted: Sat June 14, 2008 03:41 AM UTC
My husband and I will have a short stay (3 days) in Marseille next month. Any suggestions for "must see's"? Are the beaches nice? What about a day trip to Aix-en-Provence, would that be worth it? We are staying near the old port, any suggestions of good, inexpensive restaurants?

Marseille Pont weekend in Marseille
Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 10:10 PM UTC
I'm making my first trip down South from Paris to Marseille on 7th May for 5 days, I just had to finally make the trip after sooo long of thinking about it. Can anyone tell me of clean, safe accomadation for max 23 euros per night for the duration of my stay. I will be travelling alone but have friends in the city to visit.

Anyone have a good itinerary too? I was thinking of taking the train to Aix en Provence and also Nice on day trips. I'll need to find things I can do by myself too as my friend may be working some of the time.

Cheers for your help

Marseille TGV to Lyon
Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 09:19 PM UTC
Me and my girlfriend ar planning on buying a interrail pass and part of our trip is from marseilles to geneva. For this we will be going through Lyon. However all i can see are TGV trains from marseilles to lyon. Being the tight wad i am im not keen on paying for this! Is there any other way about it? i.e. intercity trains? that would be covered in our passes. If not am i better booking now rather than booking at the time?

Many thanks

Marseille Marseille-Nice bus
Posted: Fri April 11, 2008 10:32 AM UTC

Marseille Marseille day trip
Posted: Sat March 29, 2008 02:46 AM UTC
Hi,
we are staying in Antibes in September and want to do a day trip to Marseille. I've worked out the train part but want to make the most of the day in Marseille.

We definitely want to try the Bouillabaisse at the Miramar restaurant (supposed to be the locals favourite) and then see the port area. Can anyone suggest a 'must see' list for Marseille in one day?

Appreciate any comments
Cheers.

Marseille Craic in marseilles
Posted: Fri March 28, 2008 09:00 PM UTC
Hey everyone,

I’m a 19 yr old student from Ireland and my 4 buddies (same age) and I have planned a 2 week break to Marseilles from June 14th-28th. As we are students we aren’t made of money, but on the other hand we are very social aka love going out to pubs and clubs. It’s a while away yet but we have no idea basically of what we are going to do! If anyone has any knowledge of Marseilles would you please respond with as many ideas as possible to what we can do both day and night (money is no restriction but nothing way too dear). We have almost 15 days there so we need to fill that gap, plus we will we most likely have bikes as we are fit as fiddles and will be camping.

Marseille May 1 holiday 2008 Public transport/parking for the fun run?
Posted: Tue March 4, 2008 08:15 PM UTC
I want to run in the fun run in town, starting i think at 9am, May 1.

Last year we drove in, parked near a peripheral metro, but found it was all closed up, and I was too chicken to drive right into the city.

Can anyone tell me if the metro/buses do run on that day, and if not what are the parking rules in town an public holidays. The peripheral parts of Marseille were certainly pretty quiet and low traffic volumes on this day last year, but I presume there are not too many places to park south of the old port where the fun run starts. On a normal working day it would be a nightnmare, but many big cities are not too bad on public holidays....?????

Any tips gratefully accepted.

Aussie jogger John.

Marseille beaches in Marseille?
Posted: Sun February 3, 2008 06:31 PM UTC
Hello,

I'm interested in the south of France and whenever I see pictures of the big cities Nice and Montpellier I see palm trees, beaches, etc.. That mediterranean/vacation flair ;).

However, when I see photos of Marseille, I rarely see anything like that? Maybe that's just because Marseille is a bigger city and people are more interested in showing photos of the city rather than the beaches?

Are there any good beaches close to Marseille? And are there a few palm trees in Marseille, too?^^

Marseille Romantic getaway for 2 nights - what should we do in Marseille?
Posted: Wed January 23, 2008 06:40 PM UTC
In the end of February we are going to Marseille, we have booked the Radisson SAS Hotel in the port. We arrive late in the night and leave 1 1/2 days later. What should we spend our short time on? We will off course sleep so much as possible (have 2 small children at home) and would like to go to a romantic and nice restaurant in the evening and for lunch the second day. Could anyone suggest a good lunch/dinner place? And what about the rest of the time? We are not so fond of museums and don't think we should spend our time on a long bus trip either....maybe there are some activities, spa or other things that would be nice to do, close to the port..? ANY suggestion is highly welcome!

Couple from Norway
