Marseille Are there good, economical restaurants around Gare St. Charles?
Posted: Sat November 7, 2009 01:32 PM UTC
We are staying near the train station for a couple of nights in December. I prefer inexpensive, local restaurants where the locals go for working lunch or dinner. Could you recommend some restaurants around the train station? Also I would like to have cous cous with lamb or seafood which I tried in Mazara del Vallo in Sicily if there is a nearby restaurant.

Also where is the drop off at the train station from the airport shuttle? I am trying to plan my walk from the train station to the hotel using Google Maps.

Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Marseille Train to Paris
Posted: Thu September 24, 2009 04:55 PM UTC
Back in 2006, I wanted to go from Marseille back to Paris. However, the TGV was fully booked through the rest of the weekend, and so I took the classic train back. It was about a 10 hour trip and at some point, the train passed through some mountains. I never knew what route we took and what cities we passed through. Would anyone have any idea about what route that was? Unfortunately, I do not remember any of the cities, but we went west through the mountains. Thanks!

What would be the best way to get from the airport at Marseille to the docking location Quai Lamartine in Arles? Would point to point tickets be best?

I am arriving at the airport in Marseille at 9a.m. and would like to travel to Cassis the same day. Is there a rail link between the airport and train station? Where could I find how often the train runs between Marseille ad Cassis? Thanks

Marseille accomadation in Marseille
Posted: Tue June 16, 2009 12:43 AM UTC
We plan to stay in the Marseille region on 1 July-8 July 2009 and we have still to book hotel/hostel etc as we are unsure if we should stay in the city or in a small town nearby. Is Marseille considered expensive to live and eat or would VT members suggest it is wise to book a hotel in say, Aix en Provence?

It really is a last minute plan so we know that nearer our leaving date there will be less and less hotel rooms available but should it still be possible to find an inexpensive hotel/hostel in the Marseille region or is it very difficult in the month of July?

I would like to stay in Marseille city but my partner thinks it will be too busy. Is she right? Finally, if we avoid the tourist traps is it possible to eat at reasonable prices? Unfortunately, we are on a tight budget but I an sure there are other travellers in the same position as ourselves who have found some good value tourist attractions and places to eat.

Please let us know where they are!!!

Marseille one day sightseeing in Marseille
Posted: Fri May 15, 2009 05:49 AM UTC
I have about 8 hours to do all the sightseeing in Marseille that I can!
I am reaching at about noon in Marseille at the end of this month. (May) and will be departing for Paris the next morning.

I have researched a bit & found that there are tours of duration about 4 hours each that are conducted in Marseille.

One thing I very much want to do is the Calanques and Cassis tour. I would also like to do the city tour :)

My question is: with this limited time, if i start at around noon, is it possible to do these two tours in one day? (when does it get dark in Marseille in summer?)

Are there any private guided tours available in Marseille who would tailor the tour as per your needs?
Any contact info. of these tours would be terrific!

Thanks,

Is it necessary that I still book the tickets or make reservations?
Can I just show the pass and board the above two trains?

Marseille Place to stay
Posted: Wed May 6, 2009 11:56 AM UTC
Hi!
We are planning to go to Marseille in late August - beginning of September and wonder if anyone can reccomend a cheap place to stay. By cheap, I mean not B&B, no shared bathrooms/WC. Preferably, if we could rent a flat there or something like that.
BTW, can you swim in Marseille or should you go to some other place for that?

Thanks in advance for all answers!

Okay, so big question - at least it is for me.
I was recently in France and visited le chateau d'If
while I was there I did this ...activity I think may be called
Night Vision, maybe. I can't seem to find anything on it at all.
If you could give me any help at all that would be amazing.

Marseille Is Marseilles a safe city?

I know that Marseilles has not got the reputation of being the safest city in France. Does anybody know which districts should better be avoided?

Is the underground a
practical way of getting around, or is it better to use the buses?

Thank you in advance for your replies:-D
