| Chengdu | What to do for 3D2N? Posted: Fri October 20, 2006 08:56 AM UTC
Going to be in Chengdu next Saturday onwards. What else is there to do besides the Panda Reserve? Which reserve should we go to - apparently there are 2.
What else can we squeeze in? We arrive on Saturday afternoon and leave Monday afternoon - not too much time we know. Any restaurants / clubs we should not miss out? Shopping? Local and spicy food preferred - 1 of us speaks chinese so hope we shouldn't have a problem getting around. Is there anyone who knows a driver who'll be able to bring us around for a day? or are we much better getting a taxi / car from the hotel or public transport? Thanks - any tips / advice / must do things much appreciated. First timers.. |

Does anyone know the websites of reliable and good tour companies with seat-in tours from Chengdu? I am looking for tours in Chengdu itself as well as to Jiuzhaigou and even Mt Ermei/Leshan.
I know I probably can find many tour companies there but it my parents travelling and I need to plan everything nicely for them. Thanks. |

| Chengdu | going to live there Posted: Fri May 12, 2006 10:22 AM UTC
Hello,
iam from Spain and after asking for a post as a spanish teacher in china and thailand, they chose me as a suplent for the post in the university of SICHUAN. which i assume it is the one in Chengdu but iam not too sure because i havent got any other info yet. i would only go if the person chosen decide not to go, but even so, i would like to know some things about the place i asked for pekin so as you can imagine it took me a while to find out where this place was...it seems so far away from everything!!! iam sure it has its own charming and i have read lot of good comments about it but i would like to know how is the live there, things to do, the safety for a alone girl who normaly looks like 15years old and some of the prices for living, like the flats, food, cinema... i dont know, to get an idea i would also like to know if people speak english there...iam a little worried to be absolutely isolated there (the post it would be for a whole year, with the chance to stay 3years in total) thanks |

| Chengdu | Question about cuts of meat? Posted: Mon May 1, 2006 12:58 AM UTC
Have traveled in China as far west as Xian and Chongqing. Never thought about it, as it is how I cook at home, but all meats seem to be served cut in small pieces. Believe I heard some time ago this is for easier handling of chopsticks?
I saw whole animals and big parts of large ones in the markets. So, someone who had been to Chengdu asked if bigger pieces of meat are ever served? Or, is the whole animal cut like this or do the bigger pieces--roasts etc. go to chefs who might prepare them in European or American style? Cannot imagine why anyone would want this in a place with such wonderful dishes. But then, I am amazed to see Mc Donalds and Pizza Hut and Starbucks where ever I go in the world?? Hope there is nothing inappropriate about this question. But would love a reply. Am planning my own trip to Chengdu and on to Tibet. Thank you so much |

| Chengdu | Shanghai to Chengdu flights? Posted: Fri April 28, 2006 06:24 AM UTC
Hi
I'll be in Shanghai for a week in May and was hoping for a quick side trip to Chengdu; am thinking of booking the flight from Shanghai (as opposed to trying to organise it from here, Australia). Would this be earth shatteringly difficult? Also, how much are return flights booked within China? Any flight Shanghsi-Chengdu I can book from Australia is around US$400, which seems quite high. |

| Chengdu | Going to Chengdu This Weekend April 1-2 Posted: Mon March 27, 2006 10:01 AM UTC
Hi all,
Does anyone on VT actually live in Chengdu? I've been looking thorugh the tips on the site, and most of them seem quite old. Having lived in China now for a while, I know how fast things change and would really appreciate any tips from people who have been in Chengdu recently and/or live in town and might be willing to meet up. Thanks so much. Cheers, Ed |

| Chengdu | Getting to Huang Long Posted: Thu March 23, 2006 03:10 AM UTC
I will be in Chengdu for a week in April on business, and I'd like to make it to the Panda Institute and the Huang Long Valley. Does anyone have suggestions/recommendations on getting to the valley and any tips in visiting these destinations? Also, I would like to bring some gifts from California and the United States to give to the people I meet. Nothing big, but if there are any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it!

| Chengdu | Weather in Chengdu this April. Posted: Sun March 19, 2006 04:13 PM UTC
Hello,
I'm very new to this website and this is the first time for me to surf it. I hope the information about the weather is not listed anywhere in this web otherwise it could annoy somebody. How's the weather normally like in Chengdu in April? (I'm going there on the 10th.) I know it is spring but not sure what range of the temperature the city will be. Hope it is not too hot. I'm sick of that!! Thank you very much! I apreciate all the replies. le_bistro PS. It would be great if someone could indicate, too, the approximate temperature in Jiuzhaigou. I know it's so much colder than in Chengfu since it is located in the mountainous area. |

| Chengdu | Chengdu airport luggage hold? Posted: Mon March 13, 2006 07:50 AM UTC
Hey all,
I will be in Chengdu in June. Really looking forward to exploring China. I was wondering if it's possible to hold luggages in Chengdu airport? I think I will be flying to Yunnan for a few days and then coming back to catch a flight back to shanghai. Also, how far is Jiuzhaigou from Chengdu? I will only be spending 2 nights in Chengdu, wondering if that's enough time to venture out there? Thanks! |

| Chengdu | Taxis in Chengdu Posted: Fri March 10, 2006 12:29 AM UTC
Hi,
I would like to know if it is fairly easy to get a taxi at the Chengdu airport to go to our hotel (Sheraton). We will be arriving into Chengdu late at night. We speak some Chinese, so communication is not a big issue. Also, is it fairly easy to get around Chengdu using taxis so do we need to hire a tour guide for the day? Thanks sak |

| Chengdu | china to tibet Posted: Sun January 22, 2006 07:51 AM UTC
We are travelling to China and onto Tibet later this year and have a couple of questions. Other than flying is there another way of getting from Xi'an to Chengdu, a train perhaps ? Also what is the best way to go about booking a flight/permits from Changdu to Tibet? I have heard that the Traffic Hotel is helpful and also Sam's Guesthouse. Has anyone any feedback from either?
Thanks, Elphie. |

| Chengdu | Independent travel to Qingcheng and Emei Posted: Mon September 12, 2005 02:31 PM UTC
I plan to take the train to Chengdu I would like to take 2 separate trips.
One, take a train to Emei stay overnight somewhere before hiking the next day and staying at the summit. I will hike down the next day and stay overnight before taking a train back to Chengdu. I would like to know of any budget accommodations I could stay at in or around Emei before and after the hike. I also need to know what the station name is I would need in Chengdu. Two, take a train/bus to Dujiangyan and then a bus to Qingcheng. Again I would like to stay somewhere the evening before the hike and after the hike. I would also like to spend a night on the mountain. Again I would like to know of any budget accommodations near the starting point of Qincheng and also what station I need to depart from in Chengdu. Is it worth spending a day at Dujiangyan and then going to Qingcheng? Lastly, if both trips depart from roughly the same location, can anyone recommend budget accommodations in Chengdu. Perhaps one that would be willing to book my train/bus tickets and lodging? I know it is a lot, but I couldn't find little on the transportation aspects of these places. Thank you kindly for time. |
