Chongqing Look'n for answers without any clues
Posted: Sat December 18, 2004 07:02 AM UTC
I am a newbe to China. Not only I am indulging myself in the country but the culture as well - yes I may be one of those countless westerners who will soon marry a chinese woman. I'm a very fortunate man.

Without to much further ado about personal matters I seek a novices view point of what I can expect. I am in the process of learning the very basics of mandarin. I mean basics. But how does one get around the city - transporation. Are there any signs in English to gain a sense of direction? Because of international commerce I suspect that a portion of the city Chinese have learned English. Am I correct.?

Please entlighten an ingnorant traveler with any helful hints.

Much obliged,

Stan

Posted: Fri December 17, 2004 09:15 AM UTC
Hi

My wife and I will be moving to Chongqing by Feb 2005. Could someone please advise me about the residential housing and hospitals in the area.

We have stayed in Guangzhou for about 2 years, but this is the first time I will be getting posted in this area.

Chongqing Toy wholesale/retail district in Chongqing
Posted: Tue September 7, 2004 04:39 PM UTC
Anyone know if there is a street or market in Chongqing that sells tons of toys for kids? I know Guangzhou has an area like this, but I heard that Chongqing makes a lot of toys and ship them to Guangzhou for export. Husband is a toy fanatic so it would be fun to go toy hunting.

Chongqing After the 3 gorges boat trip - trains/buses out of Yichang
Posted: Wed July 7, 2004 12:18 PM UTC
Hi,

We're planning to do the 3 gorges boat trip towards the end of July. Our timing is pretty tight and we are hoping to catch a train out of Yichang the day out boat trip finishes. I am going to Guangzhou and my friends are going to Shanghai.

Does anyone know if train tickets are readily available - particularly sleepers as these are long train journeys.

If not, does anyone know a way of booking rail tickets in advance from another city, say Kunming or Guilin?

Thanks for your help!

Chongqing Three Gorges Cruises
Posted: Tue April 13, 2004 08:27 PM UTC
I want to take a trip down the river from Chongqing to Wuhan. On the Internet, I see plenty of high-prices, four and five-star cruise ships.

I was hoping to get something a little cheaper. Does anybody know if options exist under $400USD? Can these be booked online anywhere? Can you buy a ticket only a few days in advance if you want to travel in October?

Thanks!
