Learning French in Montpellier Posted: Wed May 2, 2007 06:23 PM UTC
I will be staying in Montpellier in July to learn French would like to visit Carcassonne and Perpignan. Does anyone have any advice on places for theatre or music in the evening (jazz, classical or just laid back local) in Montpellier in particular. Is there much to do in Carcassonne or Perpignan? Is it easy to get around by train?
Merci d'avance pour votre aide.

Car parking? Posted: Wed February 14, 2007 09:16 PM UTC
I am planning to visit Montpellier with my own car from Germany, for 2 weeks. I was wondering where should I park my car during my stay. Are there any free parking lots, or should I park my car on streets?
In general, where should I seek for parking? I would prefer for free and secure parking, since I will not use the car every day. I wouldn't like to pay any ticket for irregular parking neither my car to be stolen!
Thanks
PS I will not stay in a hotel, but in a friend of mine, in her apartment.

Bus or train from MPL to Caux? Posted: Mon October 9, 2006 05:46 PM UTC
Hello -
Does anyone know if there's a bus or a train from the MPL airport to Caux?
The taxi fare is about 80 Euros and I'm trying to minimize the cost.
Also, how far away is MPL airport from the train station? If I were to take a taxi rather than the shuttle bus any idea on the fare?
Thanks very much for your kind assistance.

want to meet some locals when we visit in early august Posted: Fri June 23, 2006 01:09 AM UTC
My 17 year old son, who is a Francophile, and I will be visiting Montpellier for 5 days in early August. Dale (my son) is an excellent student of French and has taken the equivalent of 5 years of French. He was selected to attend a 3 week total immersion program through the state of Virginia, USA in late June. Then I am bringing him to practice his skills. I have even enrolled myself in beginner French classes through the local Alliance Francaise chapter and will have attended 6 2.5 hour classes before the trip.
I want not so much to be tourists when we come, but to hang out where the locals go. This is in order to force Dale to use his French. He has been warned by some French people who live in our area that you guys have a strange accent that will be hard for my son to understand. Is this true? Also, can you guys give me some suggestion of local pubs, restaurants, etc. where we can meet and make friends with some locals?
Also my final question: the stereotype of French people here in the USA is that you all hate Americans, and that you prefer us not to try to speak French because we aren't good at it. I hope neither of these stereotypes is true. I look forward to meeting and making friends with some French people. I look forward also to trying what little French I will learn in my classes, and hope you guys don't mind if I butcher it a little.

Drive from Montpellier airport to Agde Posted: Fri June 9, 2006 07:14 PM UTC
I am planning on arriving in the Montpellier airport and driving from there to Agde. I have never driven in France before and my French is very very basic. Does anyone know if it will be a complicated drive from the airport to Agde or if it should be relatively simple? I am a bit worried about getting lost on the way there or on the way back...

jobs? Posted: Sat May 13, 2006 01:35 AM UTC
I am graduating college on May 26, 2006. I am American and would like nothing more than to move to Montpellier or somewhere in the south of France sometime in the fall of 2006. I am also looking for a job there that would last at least 6 months -1 year and would help me learn French fluently.
can anyone give me some advice? (what to look for, what kind of housing is best/cheapest, how long it takes to learn french fluently when starting at the novice level, etc...?)
Thanks!

Cheese! Posted: Mon April 24, 2006 05:18 PM UTC
I will be living in Montpellier for 2 months this summer. I am looking for an "off the beaten path" idea for cheese. I don't want to get anything from a shop. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. My only transportation will be public transportation such as busses and trains. (The cheaper the better as I am a student!)

Hi,
We will be in Montpellier for one night in order to catch a train to Barcelona in the morning. Can anyone recommend a cheap place to stay that is within walking distance from the train station? Would also love to get the address of the train station so we can look it up on mapquest.
We're looking for something under 30 euro a night.
Thanks!

Living in Montpellier- summer 2006 Posted: Fri February 3, 2006 12:31 PM UTC
Salut,
Me and my girlfriend are planning on moving from Sheffield, England to Montpellier early July 2006, and at the moment I am finding it hard to get started with the planning!
Could anyone give any advice or links to where we could find a basic apartment?
I would like to stay indefinitely, but we really need to see how we will cope with the language and culture before committing to a long term contract.
We would both also be looking for jobs to support us, and although I studied French at university a few years ago, I feel rather rusty and lack confidence and so something with basic language requirements would be ideal. something such as bar or hotel work would be great. Is it easy to find jobs in advance, or would it be better to search once we arrive?
I would be grateful for any comments at all, even if you are not able to help me specifically. (Especially from anyone who has gone through a similar experience)
Merci bien,
Alex

working in Montpellier Posted: Sat September 3, 2005 08:16 PM UTC
Hi, I will be going to Montpellier next year to study french, probably from January and for 7-8 months. I want to work as well, to help me pay my stay. But I'm not sure if it will be easy to find a job, in hotels or similar, on those dates. Is montpellier a all year round tourist destination? Or tourism, and therefore tourism related jobs, just exist on summer time? Thanks.
