is there a RENFE office at montpellier train station? Posted: Thu September 3, 2009 08:28 AM UTC
hoping to buy a couple of tarjeta doradas (gold cards for senior citizens) to get discounts on renfe trains. their website says you can only buy them at renfe offices at train stations. since montpellier to barcelona will be the 1st of many renfe train rides, was hoping to get the gold cards there to avail of the discounts.
is there a renfe office at the montpellier train station? (or anywhere in montpellier?)
if not, is there an equivalent card that you can get from montpellier that will give a discount for people 60+ years old when they take the renfe train to barcelona? or will showing passports as proof of age be enough?
thank you very much, will appreciate any help.

Mosquito advice please Posted: Mon July 7, 2008 11:30 PM UTC
Can anyone please tell me how July is looking for Mosquitoes in the area? Are the Mosquito numbers up or down for this time of year? Do they bite even in the daytime? Would you advise the use of Mosquito nets if staying in a Campsite chalet? Please excuse if this all sounds paranoid - it's just have read of some bad experiences on travel blogs and wonder if it all depends on the weather/season?
Thanks in advance for any help?

Need advice - I need a mobile phone while in Montpellier Posted: Thu June 12, 2008 06:33 AM UTC
Please advice what's the best way to obtain a mobile phone in Montpellier? Will be staying there for a month. I don't need an expensive phone. A basic one should be fine to communicate between France, Italy and United States. If I buy a phone, about how much will it cost? Is there such thing as "no contract" with a service provider? Will phone card work with a mobile phone. Thanks!

What can I do in 7 days in Montpellier, France? Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 07:53 AM UTC
1. My flight originate from San Francisco - Arriving in Paris on June 29. What is the best way to get to Montpellier - by train or plane?
2. If riding a train, how much is the cost? How long is the trip. What is the fastest train can I take? How do I get my train ticket from Charles de Gaulle Airport?
3. If I take the plane to Montpellier (from CDG Airport), will it be easy to purchase plane tickets at the airport with no reservation? Should I purchase my domestic tickets from the US? I'm a little concern with purchasing tickets - because what if my flight got delayed and I miss my connecting flight?
4. What neighboring cities are there close to Montpellier that I can visit? I have 7 days to spare?
Thanks!

Hey friends, I am going to Montpellier just for one night and am looking forward to spending the night in a cheap youth hostel or something of the sort. Zaha hadid // Pierre Vives...architecture in Montpellier Posted: Mon February 25, 2008 10:39 PM UTC
Hello,
I stumpled upon an article that stated there would be some kind of futuristic building combining sports and a library in Montpellier, which would be built by one of the best-known architects in the world.
Those were plans from 2006 which stated they'd start the work really soon, but I can't find any news on this. Are they building this right now or did they have to discard their plans?
merci

home stay/nanny Posted: Wed February 6, 2008 09:26 PM UTC
My son will be going to a university in Montpellier beginning this fall. He will be there for one or two semesters. Colin is looking for a family to live with. He is 21, an education/vet science major, does not drink, smoke, or eat meat. Colin currently goes to USFQ in Quito, Ecuador. He is absolutely fluent in Spanish and English. He can teach baseball, or basketball to kids. Is willing to exchange child care/tutoring for a realistic room and board situation. He really wants to live with a family and participate with the parents and children. He does not just want to be in a room that a family rents to him, if you understand my meaning. Thanks for your help.

Working in France Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 09:03 PM UTC
Hi! I have been working in Spain since august. When i arrived i could speak no spanish at all and now, 5 months later and after fairly extensive studying i am on my way to fluency and loving it. However, i have met a french guy who wants to return to montpellier and for me to join him. I would love to go, but would i find work when i got there, speaking only english and spanish? is french an easy language to learn and what is the climate??!! I'm not able to make a 'fact finding' mission as the transport between here and montpellier is very expensive and i would struggle to get time off work so i would either have to do it or not.
Thats a lot of questions to ask, sorry!

How safe is Montpellier? Posted: Sat November 17, 2007 05:17 PM UTC
I bet reading this youll want to shout out "its very safe!":-). But anyways, the other day I read a forum post about cities in southern France, where somebody from Pologne who moved to Marseille and lived there for years said he had recently moved to Montpellier and had (literally) gotten beat up 2 times. I remember one of those times was at night in the train station area or something (and then said he thought Marseille, which many people think of as dangerous, is a lot safer).
Most other people however said they never thought Montpellier was dangerous, at all. I remember a woman saying she thought Avignon scared her a bit at night or something whereas Montpellier didnt at all (but then again it isnt so much the "feeling" whether u feel its dangerous or not, but what actually happens, I guess..some people might have good some people bad experiences and draw their conclusions accordingly).
But, well..anyways, Id like to hear some input? I wouldnt really talk about this, because in my city of 100.000 in Germany somebody might get lucky and get beat up, too (though most people dont ever run into a situation like this). But reading it happened to him twice made me think a bit. However, it might have just been a random forum post..aka a troll who thought it was funny? you never know..

Moving to Montpellier Posted: Tue October 23, 2007 03:19 PM UTC
I am trying to find a house to rent long-term near Montpellier but discovered that there are often a lot of floods in certain areas and that the weather changes from village to village (St Martin de Londres always gets snow).
Can anyone please give me some advice as to which areas do get flooding each year?
Can anyone advise me on which areas are good to live in (for example: less traffic jams to get to city centre)?

SWIMMING POOLS Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 09:30 AM UTC
I cannot seem to find out where (if any!) public swimming pools are in the villages around Montpellier. I wish to find a swimming pool on the outskirts of Montpellier rather than have to go into the centre. Can anyone tell me where I can go/find them?

Is Montpellier a "big city"? Is downtown really carfree? Posted: Sun September 2, 2007 04:48 PM UTC
Ive read quite a bit about Montpellier and some people say its such a large city or at least a big city whereas other people say it's a fairly small place. Ive tried comparing it to the city where I live (100,000 habitants but the size of it is actually bigger)..this got me wondering..is Montpellier more of a big or a small city? I realize the answer to this question might be a bit difficult lol...
I also read that the use of cars was discouraged and that it was one of the few cities which are car-free, however Ive also read about traffic jams lol. I assume it is car-free in downtown? How much of Montpellier is car-free? this really got me curious, b/c if its car-free I would like it even more.

public transport / Polygone Posted: Fri August 31, 2007 11:14 PM UTC
Hello, Id like to ask 2 questions:
Is the public transport in Montpellier any good? Ive heard different opinions, but Ive also heard that one can get to the beach by bus in 20-30 minutes from the city center. Im really interested in the overall situation of public transport for getting around town.
How big is the Polygone quartier? The shopping mall and the surrounding area looked rather nice. Is that area bigger?:-)
THANKS!
