Guilin Guilin or Yangshuo
Posted: Thu December 27, 2007 07:58 AM UTC
Is it better to stay in Guilin or Yangshuo? Yangshuo looks nicer to me but some people have said it is too touristy and crowded. We are travelling in April and we want to be in this area about 4 or 5 days.

Guilin first night in Guilin?
Posted: Thu November 15, 2007 07:21 AM UTC
We will arriving at Guilin airport at 19:25. I've heard it's nicer to stay in Yangshuo, but is it worth the 1 1/2 hour transfer so late at night?

Any recommendations for a place to spend the first night in Guilin, approx 200RMB? Do most hotels pick up at the airport and what is the average cost?

Thanks so much!

Guilin How's the weather in Guilin/Yangzhuo, China end of December?
Posted: Fri September 28, 2007 08:03 AM UTC
We be taking a family vacation to Guilin/Yangzhuo at the end of December to beginning of January. Wish to know how's the weather in Guilin, China around Xmas to New Year? Will it be cold? There will be 2 kids age 6 and 4 tagging along, so is wondering if we should bring some thick winter clothes along. And is there any places of visit around Guilin/Yangzhuo to recommend?

Thank you!

Guilin Avoiding crowds on the Li River
Posted: Sun May 27, 2007 05:34 AM UTC
I and some friends will be visiting Guilin in 2-3 weeks, and of course we're looking to experience the landscape, presumably from the river. However, we would prefer a more personal experience than being crammed on a huge tourist boat with a large number of people.
To experience the landscape, how necessary is it to sail the river? Is there a way to have an equal (or greater) experience by doing a land tour?

Also, I've heard that starting in Yangshuo and sailing east from there (not north toward Guilin) provides a comparable (if not better) view of the landscape. Has anyone done this?

Finally, is it possible to hire a boat and driver for an entire day? I'm interested in photographing the area, but I would prefer not to be confined to the tourist boat, and have plenty of freedom to go off the beaten path.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Guilin Mossies in Guilin/Yangshou ?
Posted: Tue May 1, 2007 07:58 AM UTC
I read recently on someones China page that when he arrived at the airport the place was swarming with Mossies. Are Mosquitos a problem in this wet/river area, and if so at what time of year? I am coming to China in October.

I am looking at doing some voluntary teaching in the villages around Guilin with http://www.vet-china.org/ organisation. Has anyone done this before? It sounds a great way to integrate into a community for a few days, and give something back to the children.

Guilin Guilin in 2 days
Posted: Wed December 6, 2006 06:25 PM UTC
Hi! I am staying at the Lijiang Waterfall Hotel in Guilin in early March 2007. I will have 2 nights/3 days in Guilin to do my travelling and photos. I will do the River Cruise but what other highlights should I be able to do if I rush like mad? I heard there's a 1/2 day cruise and a full day cruise but I think I only need the 1/2 day cruise for photo ops, right? And are the buses back to Guilin fairly regular from the drop-off town? Thank you!

Guilin Itinerary ideas
Posted: Sat September 23, 2006 11:30 AM UTC
Hi guys,

Am wondering if the following 4 day itinerary is an overkill:
1 - Morning drive to Longsheng. Check out Zhuang and Yao Minority tribes' villages. Climb to summit of Longji (Dragon's backbone). Hike around Pingan village.
2 - Li River cruise and disembark at YangShuo. Overnight at YangShuo. <---- is this worth the extra night???????
3 - In Yangshuo, Ancient Banyan tree Park and the Moon Hill. Return to Guilin and check out Elephant Trunk Hill.
4 - Fubo Hill and Reed Flute Cave.

Anything here where can I cut down a whole day?

Thanks much as always!

Guilin Hiring a Driver in Guilin
Posted: Sun August 6, 2006 12:26 PM UTC
Hi, each time i go on vacation around asia (ie thailand, vietnam, indonesia, etc) i always hire a driver to bring me around, so that i can visit each site at my leisure, without following a tour guide and rushing from 1 place to another.

I would like to know how feasible is it to hire a driver (and how much would it cost), to bring me around in Guilin. I know some of the attractions within Guilin includes Elephant Trunk Hill, Fubo Hill and Reed Flute Cave. Would the driver be able to drive me around to these places (within 1 day) or do i have to take a tour package? Btw, i can speak mandarin, so communication with a local wont be a problem.

Please advice, all help are appreciated! Thanks!
