Hangzhou What should I do???
Posted: Thu October 19, 2006 04:27 PM UTC
Hello all,

I'll be traveling to Shanghai for work for several days. After that, I am able to take couple days on my own (total of 6 days) before I go back to the US. Do you think it's possible to travel to Suzhou, Hangzhou, AND visit/climb HuangShan in those 6 days before I go back to Shanghai to catch my flight back? Or should I just do Hangzhou and HuangShan, skipping Suzhou?? What should I do??

Hangzhou dresscode for clubs etc
Posted: Sat October 7, 2006 12:50 PM UTC
What's the typical dress code for dance clubs and bars in hangzhou? I would like to pack as little as possible to leave room for bringing things home, but I want to make sure I have the correct attire for going out dancing/drinking in the evenings. Any tips on things that are considered inappropriate? Any suggestions are welcome.

Hangzhou Learning Chinese in Hangzhou
Posted: Thu October 5, 2006 01:58 AM UTC
I'm thinking of taking chinese lessons in Hangzhou and heard a little about the Manda School. Does anyone know the quality and reputation of this school? The location seems to be ideal. Are there any others? I can only spend 2-3 weeks at a time.

Hangzhou Must-see, must-do, must-eat in Hangzhou
Posted: Wed October 4, 2006 11:54 AM UTC
I will have two nights in Hangzhou in mid november. My first time there. Other than the famous West Lake, what else is there to look forward to?

I will book a hotel right at west lake, may I know, how long does it take to cover the scenic spots of west lake? Are they concentrated at one place or I would need to take a taxi/bus to go to a few spots?

I also know there is the city centre, Wu Lin Men. How far is that from west lake? How much is the taxi fare? Or is there a direct bus?

Does Hangzhou have a market much like the old Xiangyang market of Shanghai that sells imitation goods?

Hangzhou transport to Hangzhou
Posted: Sun September 24, 2006 08:22 PM UTC
What is the least complicated way to reach Hangzhou from Shanghai on Sunday October 22? I am staying at Shanghai Post & Telecommunication Hotel, 601 Heng Feng Road, Shanghai. If it is using south railway station, approximately how much is taxi? I am travelling alone, will have at least 20 kg. luggage, and cannot speak or read a word of Chinese.

Hangzhou Hostel at HangZhou
Posted: Thu September 14, 2006 09:36 AM UTC
Hi,
I'm planning to go to Hangzhou next month, October. I'm looking a nice clean and cheap hotel / hostel near the West Lake. I've read in the forums about Hangzhou Int' Youth Hostel, but it doesnt have private room. I've searched and find Hangzhou - Jiangnanyi, at No. 32, Xiamanjuelong Road, Hangzhou Xihu District, Zhejiang Province, 310008. Is it far from the West lake? Or maybe you could recommend me some other place to stay. Thanks.

Hangzhou Questions about Hangzhou
Posted: Mon September 4, 2006 09:57 AM UTC
We are thinking of taking a trip to Hangzhou from Shanghai. Does it justify a night or a daytrip is enough?
If we stay for the night, is there a double with bathroom for the price of 300 to 500 RMB?
Is there anywhere on the web where I can check the train departure/arrival times from Shanghai?
I know there are 2 stations in Shanghai that we can depart from. Which is the other one other than the main train station? Any differences?

Is there a bus that goes around West Lake?
Are there any nice spots around West Lake that we have just gotta stop? We dont drive or bike so this could be a problem unless these spots are near public transportation.

Appreciate all suggestions.

Hangzhou Scenic Hotels in Hangzhou
Posted: Mon July 31, 2006 10:52 PM UTC
Hi Folks,

We are going on honeymoon to China this September and we will be arriving first in Hangzhou straight on the bus from Pu Dong Airport.

We are looking for a nice hotel to start our vacation that is on The West Lake although not right in downtown (good to be able to visit downtown but would like a more chilled out environment). We would also prefer a more authentic hotel experience as opposed to some of the large chain hotels that are in downtown. We have a budget but as we are just starting out don't mind paying for something that would be really special.

There is just so much choice and this site seems great for information. - Any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks Again

Hangzhou Studying Mandarin in Hangzhou
Posted: Tue July 18, 2006 11:24 AM UTC
Hi,

I'm planning to study Mandarin in Hangzhou for 8 weeks in December. Can anyone recommend a good language school to study at? I'm considering studying at a school called MANDA School of Chinese but can't seem to find much feedback from other foreigners. If you have any info or feedback on this school that would be great!

Thanks,

Hangzhou Apartment for Rent in Hangzhou
Posted: Thu July 6, 2006 03:01 PM UTC
Hello,

I will be moving to Hangzhou very soon and my company is located in Hi-Tech Industry Development Zone , Binjiang. I have couple of questions regarding Hangzhou.

1. How much does it cost to rent an apartment in the nearby locality? Basically, I am looking for a 1 bedroom apartment with water, cooking gas, electricity, and if possible, fully furnished. It should be secure and should not be too far from market/shops.

2. Which area will be suitable for me to minimize my travelling time to office?

3. I will be getting a monthly salary of 4800 CNY. Is this a good salary to survive in Hangzhou and meet my expenses?

4. Is is difficult to find vegetarian food in Hangzhou?

5. Is Hangzhou safe and good for expatriates?

Please send me your valuable inputs as soon as possible.

Thanks

I would like some information about catching a bus from Pu Dong airport to Hangzhou. I arrive at PuDong approx 18.05pm and would like to travel directly to Hangzhou.

Also, as I have to do some business there, any advice regarding communication (as I believe very little english is spoken) would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou

Hangzhou North Peak Lingyin Temple
Posted: Sat May 27, 2006 05:53 PM UTC
I was in Hangzhou 20 years ago and I loved it! I remember the Temple and the North peak and I'm trying to write a story (a positive one) which has a scene in those places. My two characters have to leave the temple and climb up to the peak and down to some other place (a road, building or site)so I'm really interested in what this climb would be like, the path, the trees, flowers, bushes, sounds, sights, smells, water, the views. Anything like that would help me. Also, any description of how you enter the Temple from the road, stream, trees, path, people, sounds, smells. The time of year would be July. Thank you very much!

Hangzhou Learning Chinese/learning WuShu
Posted: Tue May 2, 2006 09:07 AM UTC
Hi! I am going to move to hangzhou at the end of the month, for at least a year, maybe more... This is my second year in China and I reckon I have been very lazy so far. So I have good resolutions...
First I want to seriously learn Mandarin. Secondly, I used to practice Judo and Aikido, but I have had any training for the last few years, so I want to get some serious exercise and learn WuShu/KungFu. So my questions are:
1. Can anyone give me a tip as to how to find an affordable but qualified Chinese tutor?
2. Can anyone recommend a good WuShu/KungFu school in Hangzhou?

Thanks for your time and help!
