Kashgar karakul lake
Posted: Fri February 8, 2008 04:28 AM UTC
We will be in Kashgar from 13th October this year and don't need to be in Shanghai until the 20th so we would like to do at least an overnight stay at Karakul Lake. Is this something we would do on our own from Kashgar using local transport or would we hire a guide. What about Shipton's Arch is this something worth a visit, also. Any other suggestions.

Kashgar Kashgar Guesthouse/Hotel
Posted: Tue December 19, 2006 07:32 PM UTC
Hi everybody,
Several university friends and I will be traveling to Xinjiang this july on a research grant and we are looking for a decent place to stay in kashgar for about a week. Does anybody have ang reccommendations? We are a group of 6 American, Canadian and Singaporean classmates and half of us are of Han background and are thus a bit nervious to be traveling in Xinjiang if you know what i mean. Can abybody suggest a nice, inexpensive, safe place in kashgar with hot showers and clean rooms? as of now our budget is a bit flexible, but 70-100 RMB for a double room is what we're looking for. Thanks

Kashgar is it correct to call kashgar bazaar still Sunday bazaar in english ?

is it correct to call kashgar bazaar still Sunday bazaar in english ?
do local people understand what you mean ,where you want to go ?
you can say ,instead of calling it in english ,call it (yingi bazaar) ,that is much better for tourists .
and another thing , tourists don,t know where to stay while they are in kashgar city , good answer is ,Chinibag Mihmanhanisi (chinibag hotel) or Saman Mihmanhanisi (seman Hotel) ,there are bunch of hotels in kashgar but little expensive .

Is Kashgar Really in China or is it really in over the border? And how safe is it there for westerners, most importantly, Americans?

Kashgar Kunjerab pass, Karakorum highway
Posted: Fri January 30, 2004 03:21 AM UTC
China into Pakistan or the other way round?

I'm considering to cross the Kunjerab pass on the Karakorum highway around Mai 1st. Now the last big constaraint is the possible snow cover and pass closure.
Anyone knows some reliable sources where to enquire about the last few years, when the pass was repopened and what exactly are the criteria?

Some insight would be great, thanks.
