Our cruise ship is stopping in October in Koper. We would like to visit Pula, Croatia if possible. It seems it is about 1 1/2 hours away. What is the best way to get to Pula to see the sites?

Hi
I will be arriving in Koper, Slovenia via a cruise ship and have to make a choice between the following two tours:

1. Lake Bled- 7 hour tour inclusive of 2hours drive to and from cruise pier(4hours of driving) with an hours boat ride on the lake and 2 hours free time to explore the castle/church and alpine scenery.

2. Ljubliana tour- 7hour tour with 75minutes drive each way to and from pier, includes a walking tour of city and all highlights, open markets, town hall, architecture, followed by a 1hour riverboat ride, lunch at a slovenian inn and then 90minutes of free time.

I have looked at pictures on the net of both Lake Bled and Ljubliana; and they both look very interesting and beautiful. I would love advise from those who have experienced these parts of Slovenia as to which of these tours I should choose given that I only have 1 day in Slovenia.

Maribor Posted: Mon August 29, 2011 12:43 PM UTC
My daughter has been accepted as a volunteer in a senior citizens' home in Maribor. She can take three weeks off from her job here, mid-October to mid-November, that's when she will be in Maribor.

Since she is very busy right now, I offered to find out some of the basics for her trip, and I hope VTers will help me there.

What's the best way to get there, train or car? If we book in advance, the train will be cheaper, but how easy is it to get around on public transport in Maribor? Naturally she wants to see some of the area around Maribor as well.

If she comes by car, how is the parking situation in Maribor? Expensive? She drives an old Diesel, how much is Diesel now? I saw some old quote in another forum question, it was slightly cheaper than here in Germany.

What about parking in Ljubljana on a weekend? It looks like there are several trains between Maribor and Ljubljana, so going by train may be easier and more comfortable. Are both train stations pretty much in the centre of the cities?

And the next main question: Where to stay? My daughter has to find her own accomodation. Has anyone stayed in Hostel Eva or Hostel Uni? Is one better than the other?

Thank you for any information. We're going to see her for a weekend. Some years ago we had everything booked for a nice stay in Slovenia and then had to cancel, so this time we are determined to go, even if it's just for a few days.

Hi
I shall be arriving at Lesce-Bled station from Klagenfurt by train.
Can anyone help me to get to Pr' Matjon, where I will be staying for the next 4 night by bus from Lesce-Bled station? This pension is in the village of Selo.
Also I am wondering if i should spend all 4 days exploring region near Bled or should i take a train/bus to Ljubjana or to Maribor. which one is prettier?
Any idea what buses? or trains and how much?
It will have to be day trips. is it worth seeing these 2 cities or shall i visit them on another trip to europe and spend all my time in bled?
was just wondering because if the weather is rainy, it would be pointless to be in Bled and so i might as well go visit the other 2 cities should it rain. Please help

A dilemma my kid is facing. For instance in the past we found that while in Belgrade it is a rather neutral question - in rural Serbia "Visa" checking card is more widely accepted by ATM-s than "Master".

What is the situation in Slovenia? Should he get a "visa" for duration of his studies or a "master"?

(Obviously this is not passport-related question, we don't need any visa to Slovenia, even long-term)

Hello,

Is it possible to visit the postojna cave and the nearby predjama castle, on public transportation, and is there a map of public transportation routes? Would it be possible to fit this visit and a visit to Piran in a one day visit from a cruise ship?

Thank you.

Doing some early planning for Aug/Sep 2012. We'll have a van and would like to spend a day in Ljubljana; visit Lake Bled and drive around the Julian Alps; head down to the Karsk region for the caves and castle; and then make our way to Ravinj.

It's nice not to have to keep packing up, so is there a good central base where we could possibly spend 3 or 4 nights and drive to these places fairly easily?

Alternatively, is it better to break it down to 2 + 2? I'd been considering Skofja Loka but not sure if we'd be better to stay up in Bled for its proximity to the Julian Alps drive. In that case, is there a nice place on the southern side of Ljubljana that people could recommend?

Hope this makes sense. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks, Kathy

Has anyone ever heard of Penzion Pazler in Bled, Slovenia? We were booked in Penzion Mlino but unfortunately the owner contacted us saying that she had double booked us and that she had booked us into Penzion Pazler instead. Since I have not been able to find it on the net, I was wondering whether anyone knew anything about it before we actually go there next month.

Hi,
Are there any special requirements that 2 Aussies need to know about driving a hire car in Slovenia?
When we cross from Croatia into Slovenia, do we just drive to the nearest petrol station to buy a vignette or will we have to somehow have obtained one beforehand?

hello!
I'm planning to go to Ljubljana/Slovenia...
as a first step I need information about the easiest and economical way to reach to Ljubljana...
I could find flight either to Milano or Munih...the question is from which one it would be easier/shorter?
And which way;the train or bus will be faster?...
are there regular trains or buses?...

and ofcourse any other suggestions are mostly welcome!:))

ciao.

I am planning my trip to Europe and it seems all of the direct trains between Venice and Ljubljana are in the middle of the night. I've checked it going both ways, and both options have me going to the train station in Ljub. at around 2am.
I've heard that this city is very safe, but how safe would it be to arrive at 2am and walk to my hotel? Or catch a train at 2am? It will be myself and my husband, so I won't be alone, but we'll obviously be tourists!
Any advice?

My wife, my two kids and I are coming into Koper via cruise ship for a day. Rather than hang out in Koper with all of the other cruisers, I thought we might go to Ljubljana.

Questions:

1. Is there enough to see in Koper or will it all just be touristy?
2. If we go to Ljubljana, should we drive or take a train?
3. How long would each one take?
4. What are some key sites to see in Ljubljana? (kids are 8&9)

Thanks for your help!!

OK the oldest vine in the world already has me but now I see there are hot springs. Europe and Montana do not exactly do hot springs the same, we do not do spas and such. Much more casual, is there such a thing here?

We're a group of 20 and after docking at Koper at 8AM, we plan to hire a bus and do the following: Škocjan Caves, Vinakras wine tasting and performance at Lipica Stud farms at 3PM.

Is this do-able from the perspective of time and direction etc. so as to be back at Koper by 5PM.

Also, does anyone know of any law which says that a tourist group has to have a guide with them and cannot just hire a bus
Thanks,
Jay

I’m interested to know about car hire in Slovenia and Croatia. We are 3 couples (50’s), planning to spend about 12 days in this region in September 2012. We need to accommodate 6 plus luggage, so I think we’ll need a minivan.
Our itinerary is 3 nights in Lake Bled (arriving from Hallstatt, Austria), 3 nights in Rovinj, 1 night in Plitvice Lakes National Park, 2 nights on Hvar and 3 nights in Dubrovnik – using these as bases and taking day trips to other places. (I know we won't need the car in Dubrovnik - can take bus trips here.)
Can anyone recommend a suitable car hire company? Will we need to hire and return in each country or is there a car firm which allows a pick-up in Slovenia and drop-off in Croatia without a massive fee?
Any advice would be most gratefully received! Thank you in anticipation.
