| Kosicky | Salary/Location Question - Kosice Posted: Fri February 18, 2005 12:00 AM UTC
Hello everyone,
I'm currently negotiating with an American based company that is expanding it's office in Kosice. I am an IT specialist coming from the USA. I am very adventurous, have lived abroad before and traveled to many countries in Eastern Europe, so I don't expect too be over-whelmed by culture shock (a good amount of course!) I would like to ask both local professionals and, perhaps, any foreign professionals working in the country a few questions. I imagine that Bratislava can be an exciting place to live - given it's size and location - for someone like me who enjoys culture, hiking, sports, theatre, live music, and traveling (close to Viennna, Brno etc). But I'm not sure about Kosice? all I know is that it's a medium sized city of 300,000? does anyone have an opinion of the Kosice area? My other question is complicated. I'm doing this for many reasons, NOT for the money (i'm honestly turning down offers in the US that pay $50-60K/year) But, I would still like to live quite comfortably in Kosice if I get the position. Idealy, I would earn what would be considered by a local professional as a "very good salary". Just as a guess, would 45000 SKK each month be a "very good salary" for a local IT professional? Or for a foreign professional, if their is a difference in wages? How about 55000 SKK? For example, If someone were coming to the were I live, I would tell them that a "very good salary' salary here, for an IT professional, is $60-80K per year. That a doctor here might make $80-120K per year Thanks, Your advice is appreciated! |

I am planning a trip to visit Slovakia where my grandparents were born. I was wondering how to get to the village Vysna Mysla and if anyone can give me information about it.
