any of you has gone to the WFC building? i read that its the higher in Shangai. There are a restauran or bar there? or just go up to see the views (well i thinks its enough..).
I'm going to be in Shanghai the last nights of my trip in China, so i'm looking for any special place with beautiful views to dinner.Someone told me about some "rotary" restaurants, where it is? on the Pearl TV tower?
All the suggestions are apreciated!

Pudong Laser / Light Show Posted: Sun August 23, 2009 03:15 AM UTC
During this time of re-construction/renovation of the Bund, is the laser light show from the Pudong side still happening every night? When do the building engage their lights in the evening? (In Hong Kong, the building lights turned on around 8pm, never fail). Also, if I were in Shanghai in about 3 weeks, what time would the sun be starting to go down? From a photographer perspective, I`ll want to take a few shots of the Pudong area as the sun touches down on the horizon, as well as when the lights turn on at twilight.

The Bund and surrounding buildings Posted: Thu August 20, 2009 09:27 PM UTC
Searching for updates: 1> Is HuangPu Park still pretty much blocked to pedestrian access or are there some areas where one can get into for a quick photo of the Pudong side at night? 2> if HuangPu park is still closed off, is there a building along the north part of Zhongshan Road where the public can go to the roof and take photos from (for free or low entry cost?). I'll need an unobstructed view of the Pudong side for an ideal photo (and to be high enough that the construction stuff won't be in the way of the photo). 3> where exactly do I find the entrance to that whacky Tourist tunnel with all the psychadelic lights? I read somewhere that it's in the basement of the Peace Hotel???

Airport to Hotel Posted: Sun August 16, 2009 09:19 AM UTC
What's the best way to get from Pudong Airport to the Grand Hyatt? Is there some kind of coach bus we can hop on?
Is there a close metro stop in walking distance to the hotel?
Also, does anyone know what the cab fare would be? Thanks!

Tongli Posted: Sat August 15, 2009 01:04 PM UTC
Planning on taking a day trip to Tongli water town. Is it better to take a guided tour or wing it by ourselves?
Any reccommended companies?
Any tips for going it alone? Bus numbers etc?
We're staying at the Grand Hyatt if that helps. I know there's a few that will do pick-up at the hotel.
Thanks!

Staying @ Mingtown People Square Youth Hostel (near People’s Square)
Sept 2 (Wed)
3 pm – arrival @ Pudong airport; arrival @ hostel; buy Hangzhou ticket @
nearby train ticket office; rest; dinner; Huangpu River Cruise (not
yet sure), Tallest building for skywalk
Sept 3 (Thurs)
8am – Yuyuan Garden; Eat Brunch
???? - cab to Outlet Store
???? – leave Outlet Store; go back to hostel
6pm or later – French Concession Area (stroll, maybe dinner)
Sept 4 (Fri)
7:30 am – train to Hangzhou (or whatever earliest train there is to Hangzhou)
4:00pm – train back to Shanghai
Rest of the evening - West Nanjing area (window shopping, Plaza 66 etc)
Sept 5 (Sat)
Morning - maybe Art Museum ???
2pm - Bibliotheca Zi Kawei (for free English tour)
6pm – maybe French Concession again and West Nanjing Area if I’m not able to
do it on Thurs and Fri
Sept 6 (Sun)
AM – wake up late, have brunch
1pm – leave hostel
4pm – departure from Pudong Airport
Questions:
1)Is the Huangpu River Cruise the same as the one in Hong Kong and Seoul, is
it similar? I’m having second thought of taking the Huangpu River Cruise
2)Is 2 hours around Yuyuan garden okay? I just want to have a quick look
around, since I’m not really into gardens.
3)What is the best time to leave Yuyuan Garden to catch a cab to Outlet store?
I’m choosing between the two:
a)after Yuyuan, have a heavy brunch, take a cab by 11am or 12nn to outlet
store
b)after Yuyuan, take a cab to outlet store, and have my lunch there.hopefully
there’s a restaurant there
4)Is it okay to leave the outlet by 4:30pm? Or 4pm would be better?
5)Is it worth it to take the English tour in Bibliotheca? Or I can tour the
place on my own?
6)Basically,I have no idea what to do on Saturday.Any ideas? No temples, no
gardens,no china historical places. Last time I was in Shanghai ,I’ve been to
Jinmao, museums,Qibao.Worse comes to worst, I’ll probably just watch a movie.
Any cinema that shows English films with English audio?
Thanks!

Shanghai Maglev or ? Posted: Fri August 14, 2009 07:46 PM UTC
Am I correct in assuming that I can take the subway from my hotel off Nanjing St (Manhattan Business Hotel, near the Bund) to someplace on the Pudong side, and then grab the Maglev to Pudong airport? I'm looking for the simplest way to get to the airport since I just found an excellent sale on my flight from Shanghai to Guilin on elong but this flight leaves from Pudong, not Hongqiao. Or, if there is a cheap but comfortable (and easy) shuttle option near my hotel, that would be good too. There are 2 of us, so perhaps it would be cheaper to split a taxi? I'm sure my hotel will have suggestions, but wondered if any VT'er had some experience with this.

eating in French Concession area... Posted: Sat August 1, 2009 02:11 PM UTC
Is there any restaurant in French Concession area (preferably Xintiandi area, since I heard the atmosphere there is nice) that is not for "couples" or "families"?
I really want to try one of the restaurants in that area but I'll be dining alone (since I'm travelling alone), so I really don't want to look stupid eating alone while I'm surrounded with a group of people.
Preferably Italian/Japanese/American/Chinese cuisine. Not too expensive.. maybe around 300rmb or 400 and below..

Pedestrian Tunnel? Posted: Fri July 24, 2009 05:56 PM UTC
Browsing through the Shanghai pages, I came across mention of this light-show-trippy tunnel you can take from the Bund to Pudong. However, I haven't seen any updated pages on this. Is this tunnel affected by the current construction? Is it still running? Where can I find the entrance? I plan to be in Shanghai around September 12. Thanks!

YuYuan Gardens or? Posted: Thu July 23, 2009 07:54 PM UTC
We will be staying near the Bund & Nanjing Rd (north) in September. We arrive by train around 11am. We wanted to do something simple for the rest of the day, a walk along the Bund (whatever section will be open to pedestrians by mid-September), and then perhaps a visit to YuYuan Garden. The general directions to get there is to walk south along the Bund and then turn right on Jinling St (I think). How far of a walk is it from our hotel (Manhattan Business Hotel) to YuYuan Gardens? Is this the best choice of gardens? I understand there may be an interesting market around there, too. If there is a direct bus or subway to YuYuan from our hotel? Other scenic area suggestions are welcome!

Would personal guide be a good idea Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 12:43 PM UTC
Hi,
My 21 year old daughter and 24 year old son are presently in Shanghai. Never having travelled before they're finding it hard knowing where to go and what to do. They tried talking to the conscierge at Radisson Hotel but are not having much success. They firstly wanted to know how to book the acrobatic show and circus show? He says he doesn't know. I am wondering if it may be worth paying a guide for a couple of days to show them around? They have another 4 days to fill in, but are thinking of trying to head back to Hong Kong early. Does any one have any ideas or can recommend a personal guide?

Romantic Restaurant in Shanghai Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 09:13 AM UTC
All right folks, I need serious help from the community ... I am taking a very special girl on a date in Shanghai on next Saturday night. I am on the search of a cozy, romantic, not usual restaurant. No need to be posh or luxurious and surely not one of those restaurants found on guidebooks and magazines, she knows them all! ... I need something different, romantic and cozy, that will make me stand out. Any good ideas?
Thanks!

studio pictures Posted: Tue June 9, 2009 02:03 AM UTC
Hello,
I'm interesting in doing studio pictures where I dress up in different fancy dresses, my hair and make up is done, do funny poses and takes lot of pictures. Then I can buy the pictures and a nice photo book containing the pictures. It's not for wedding or engagement. I hear a lot of females who visit asian courtries do this because it's fun and the pictures look nice. I'm not looking for an expensive elite pro. I just want these pictures to be good, fun and lots of laughs.
I've tried searching online, it's either I have walk up and down certain roads and just ask around or pay a hefty price for an elite pro. I read I can go near the universities and there's plenty of those types of studios around for cheap. But I like to plan ahead and know what I'm getting myself into. Here are my preferences if it helps.
1. English speaking photographer or vendor.
2. Hair and make up can be done at the same venue
3. Vendor or photographer who has outfits/dress on site for me to use for the photo shot.
4. Fairly cheap, my budget is $400 USD.
If anyone has been done this before and would recommend the photographer or vendor, please provide the contact name, # and/or email. That would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Helen
