Shanghai Would personal guide be a good idea
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 11:43 AM UTC
Hi,

My 21 year old daughter and 24 year old son are presently in Shanghai. Never having travelled before they're finding it hard knowing where to go and what to do. They tried talking to the conscierge at Radisson Hotel but are not having much success. They firstly wanted to know how to book the acrobatic show and circus show? He says he doesn't know. I am wondering if it may be worth paying a guide for a couple of days to show them around? They have another 4 days to fill in, but are thinking of trying to head back to Hong Kong early. Does any one have any ideas or can recommend a personal guide?

Shanghai Romantic Restaurant in Shanghai
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 08:13 AM UTC
All right folks, I need serious help from the community ... I am taking a very special girl on a date in Shanghai on next Saturday night. I am on the search of a cozy, romantic, not usual restaurant. No need to be posh or luxurious and surely not one of those restaurants found on guidebooks and magazines, she knows them all! ... I need something different, romantic and cozy, that will make me stand out. Any good ideas?

Thanks!

Shanghai studio pictures
Posted: Tue June 9, 2009 01:03 AM UTC
Hello,

I'm interesting in doing studio pictures where I dress up in different fancy dresses, my hair and make up is done, do funny poses and takes lot of pictures. Then I can buy the pictures and a nice photo book containing the pictures. It's not for wedding or engagement. I hear a lot of females who visit asian courtries do this because it's fun and the pictures look nice. I'm not looking for an expensive elite pro. I just want these pictures to be good, fun and lots of laughs.

I've tried searching online, it's either I have walk up and down certain roads and just ask around or pay a hefty price for an elite pro. I read I can go near the universities and there's plenty of those types of studios around for cheap. But I like to plan ahead and know what I'm getting myself into. Here are my preferences if it helps.

1. English speaking photographer or vendor.
2. Hair and make up can be done at the same venue
3. Vendor or photographer who has outfits/dress on site for me to use for the photo shot.
4. Fairly cheap, my budget is $400 USD.

If anyone has been done this before and would recommend the photographer or vendor, please provide the contact name, # and/or email. That would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Helen

Hi All

My husband and I are going to Shanghai - 5th - 12th June.
This forum is a wealth of knowledge and I have pages of recommendations - many thanks!

A quick question ~ How expensive is Shanghai? We will convert from AUS$ to local currency.
Cost of food, beer, attractions, shopping - clothing/jewellry?

Cheers in advance! 2 sleeps til we depart!

Shanghai Shanghai Julu Garden Villa
Posted: Tue June 2, 2009 12:02 AM UTC
Has anyone stayed in the Shanghai Julu Garden Villa hotel. It looks like it is near the resturants behind the bar strip on Julu road. This kind of makes it seem a little undesirable, but the few coments I saw online were very positive.

I would like to know about the noise level, cleanliness, comfort of beds and rooms, TV and anything else you can think of. I just worry it is like the last Chinese three star hotel I stayed at in Shenzhen, bad bed, no English TV, terrible breakfast, and on and on. Thanks all!

Shanghai Help for accomodation, please!
Posted: Sun May 31, 2009 07:12 PM UTC
Hi everyone!
I´ll be going to China for 2 weeks in July and I still need to find a hotel for my 4 nights in Shanghai.
I´m looking for something not too pricey (something between USD $50-80) but specially something that has a great location.

I love the city center areas, or shopping areas.. but I heard staying near the Bund is the best option. What do you guys think?
Also, I read on lots of reviews that bed are normally very hard so I was wondering of chosing the "Executive" or even "Deluxe" rooms would be the best thing to do... or if that doesn´t make any difference.

Thanks for your help! please consider that I´m travelling on my own so I would appreciate if your recommendations were in safe areas.

I am a Bk of America customer and would like to avoid ATM fees if I can. Their affiliate in China is the China Construction Bank, at whose ATMs there is no additional fee. Do they have an ATM at Pudong airport (international arrival)? I would like to get some local currency before heading into the city. Thanks.

Hi VT-ers and thanks in advance for your help.

How long is the metro ride from East Nanjing Road to Zhang Jiang High Technology Park (Line 2)? And, if a factor, how long to cover the distance during workweek rush hours?

Any one going to Shanghai for the Total Solar Eclipse on 22nd July 2009? I am thinking of going there with a small group of amateur astronomers from Mumbai, India. Would like to know which good travel agencies in China to contact for travel plans, accomodation, etc. Would like to know from locals in Shanghai if there is an active astronomers group organising something from the centerline of the eclipse South of Shanghai. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Shanghai Shanghai South Train Station
Posted: Thu April 16, 2009 08:43 PM UTC
Hi,
My mother is on a crusade...going to China on her own...I am trying to plan all steps of her trip. Followingly I will sincerely appreciate it if you can let me/us know the connection options between Shanghai Pudong airport and the Shanghai South Train Station. She is scheduled to arrive Pudong at 17:30 on 19-04. And she needs to catch a train to Yuyao (Zhejiang Province) the same night. I checked the train schedules, it seems like she needs to take the T7797 train at 19:45. How can she connect from Pudong to train station in the fastest/safest possible way? The last but not the least....she doesnt speak english or chinese:)

Shanghai Apartment vs. Hotel
Posted: Sun April 5, 2009 09:28 PM UTC
I will be in Shanghai for about a month, arriving in June. I am on a budget and would like to know if it would be much less expensive to rent an apartment for a month rather than paying a daily hotel rate for a month. Also, is it possible to negotiate a monthly rate with hotels?
Your responses will be appreciated.
