I'll be staying at the Zheng Xie Hotel while studying at the Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for a month in April. If anyone knows of any good and clean safe eats around there I'd appreciate the recommendation. I was also wondering what a decent meal will cost you in Shenyang, nothing fancy just tasty and safe? Also what do people think is the best way to get around town? I'll appreciate any other information that you'd like to offer as well :)

BEIJING, HARBIN, SHENYANG.
Travelling alone. Seeking travel companion. Would appreciate VT members who are kind enough and can spare a time to meet for meals, tea/beer.
Fellow travellers who are keen for companionship can be for one or all of the cities mentioned.
Will land in BEIJING on January 10, 2007 heading straight to HARBIN for 5 days by Train, onwards to SHENYANG for a brief stay (perhaps 2 days), then to DANDONG - both cities in Liaoning Province. Back to BEIJING around January 19/20 visiting the best places BEIJING has to offer.
I am a Male, Malaysian Chinese, speak, read and write English. Also speak fluent Mandarin (Putonghua - the language of communication in China).
Thank you.

1. Does Shenyang have some type of subway or railway system for getting around the city? If not, is it supposed to get one sometime in the future? When, if so?
2. Is there anywhere on the north side of the city to buy "foreign" type groceries like block cheese (as opposed to the fake slice cheese found in all the grocery stores) or tortilla shells or anything like that?
3. Is there anywhere in Shenyang to find Mexican food either in a restaurant or grocery store?
Please answer even if you can only answer one of the questions! I appreciate any help!

Hi, I'm a collector of Starbucks city mugs from around the world. I'm actually trying to tie in a trip somewhere in the world with my mug collecting! I was wondering, if anyone has been to the Starbucks in Shenyang, are there are any mugs that have "Shenyang"? Thanks!

I am visitng shenyang to view steam engines at the end of october. I am thnking of staying at the Gloria Plaza as it has a disco and is in the thick of it. It seems the Globe is the biggest disco in town, is this the place to be on a friday night ??. If anyone is intersted in taking me round Shenyang to find the railway sheds, the museum and any good photographic vantage points for taking picture of steam engines I can make it well worth their while.

Hello anyone living in Liaoning Sheng vicinity or travelining through the second week of April. YangShu and I would like to call together the first VTers' Shenyang meeting. I will be there the second week of April. We thought since there are many VTers in the area that a meeting would be fun. The exact time and place in Shenyang is yet to be decided. We would like to get an idea of the number of people interested so a location can be arranged. Please respond here.
Thank you, urban4est
