Arctic Fairbanks/Juneau in March 2005
Posted: Fri June 18, 2004 12:09 PM UTC
Hi,
We have been planning our trip to Fairbanks for March 2005. The purpose of the trip is to view the Northern Lights in Fairbanks and while we were in Alaska we thought it would be good to fly down to Juneau for three days. However I have just found out we cannot do any whale watching or bear viewing as these are considered to be summer activities. We also wanted to have a helicopter ride up to the mendenhall glacier but the only option at this time of the year would be $500 for 1/2 day which is too expensive. We are now considering flying out of Fairbanks to Vancouver directly and avoiding Juneau as the three reasons for going there aren't available during March.
Can anyone tell me if there are any other 'must do's' in Juneau? We would love to see the wildlife and views of Alaska and thought Juneau may be a good place to do this.
If anyone can give me any help before 6pm (GMT) today I would welcome it. Our trip is currently saved with a travel agent and expires at that time.
Thank you all for your help
Julie

Arctic transport from Kangaamiut
Posted: Tue May 25, 2004 08:57 PM UTC
I'll be traveling in Greenland in late June, and am planning on taking a ferry from Narsaq up the east coast and getting off at Kangaamiut. From there I need to get up the 160 km fjord to Kangerlussuaq. Does anybody know of a company that does that?

I'll be back on this site in July to share what I learn on this trip.

Posted: Wed November 12, 2003 09:38 PM UTC
The Actic region isn't the cheapest place in the world.
However, I'm seaching for low-budget trips destination east greenland (around disko bay) for about 3 weeks.
Who can give me some advice? No hotels...I'm not afraid of walking or sharing rooms.
Former greenland travellers also very welcome to respond!!
Best regards, Maudy

Arctic northpole
Posted: Thu July 31, 2003 06:13 PM UTC
By one of my virtual voyages i found a site with cruises to the northpole.

It looks verry interesting, but somewhat i do not understand:
They offer a trip to the northpole (90 degrees north) with the ship. I think the area around the northpole is massive ice and not passable by ship.

Am i wrong, or do i have unterstand somwhat wrong?

I'm going to create a site about my home-region - Nenets Autonomous okrug (North-West of Russia). But before I start I'd like to ask if there anybody who is interested in learning information about this topic and what could be particular questions to be discribed on the site. I will be very grateful to all your comments. Sincerely, JuryT
