Hi guys,
Would like to know how is celebrated the Happy New Years in Sicily.
1- Any traditions, public attractions?
2- Will be the commerce closed for longer than the 1st/jan?
3- Witch is the hip neighborhood (we are a 30's couple) area to stay as a base?
4-How is the weather this time of the year? I know is winter, but how cold it can get?
Any information would be fantastic, at this point, we are flighting to Rome, and are considering go south to Sicily or flight/get a ferry to Sardegna. We are traveling for about 15 days. Thank you!
Hi, all.. I'm going to be in Munich on Dec. 27 and would love to go snowboarding in the Alps from there. Problem is I don't know which country-- Swiss, Italian, French, Bavarian-- is the best. Does anyone have a clue which would be least crowded during the holidays and also the best price? But also have good snow? I have about a week to snowboard before I need to be in Dresden on Jan. 4..
I'm going to be in Freiberg and thereabouts from January 4 to the 6. Does anyone know how far is it from Dresden? Is it better to stay in Freiberg or Dresden or someother city? I only really need to be in Freiberg on Jan 5 for some interviews, and other than that am free to go around, though I'd like a sense of that part of eastern Germany..
thank you!
Can anyone tell me whether there is an Sbahn 1, or Sbahn 8 train, which departs Munich Hauptbahnhof at around 4 am on any Tuesday morning, and arrives at the Munich airport?
I must take a flight which departs Munich at 06:55 am...and, I understand that I must be at the airport two hours before my departure time.
I have never booked a package deal before, but this time the flights, accommodation, Golden Circle Tour, airport transfers etc, were going to work out cheaper than booking it all individually.
If anyone has booked a Icelandair tour, do I not have to confirm anything, like the Golden Circle Tour or anything, or do they just pick me up from my hotel?
I received an itinerary including hotel booking, I'm just a bit worried i will turn up and they have no record of my booking!
Has anyone stayed at the Loftleidir Icelandair Hotel? I see now it is way out of town, right next to an airport, hope they have double glazing!
Hi again,
I was just reading a previous question and did a brief Google search about the Blue lagoons. Do you have to book a tour there? Or can you just hop on the local bus (cheaper most likely) there?
Also, what are my chances of seeing Northern Lights December 2-6? I know it depend on the solar activity and Earths atmospheric conditions/weather, but on average, would I have a good chance to view them?
Thanks for any replies:-)

my husband and i are spending 3 nights in stockholm for new years eve. we're 30 and 32 yrs old and enjoy good food with great surroundings. we're staying at hotel stureplan. i've been searching online for a restaurant with a bar for a great meal/atmosphere on nye, have looked at gondalien, berns, cafe opera and fredsgarten 12. they all look fab but ever so pricey. i understand that stockholm is pricey and its new year, but would rather not spend £300 on dinner and drinks for one night!! anywhere else recommended? or do we eat earlier and watch the fireworks from gamla stan?? many thanks e xx
We are traveling to Rome for 10 days in early April and will probably spend 4 days in Rome and then would like to see some of the Amalfi Coast. I am looking for recommendations on the amount of time to spend in the areas for a family of 4 with 2 boys ages 7 and 9. Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.
Is there a public bus to this town and if so, where from? We can either approach from the north (Pienza Tuscany) or the South (Rome). The easiest solution preferred? We would rather not rent a car, if possible.
I am a lover of vintage fashion and accessories but my last trip to Barcelona, I could only find shops in the Raval district with second-hand clothes mainly from the 70s/80s.
Are there any quality vintage shops which stock clothes from 20s-60s? Or any specific markets which sell vintage fashion?
My family (3 persons) will be traveling to Rome between Christmas and new years for the first time. We'd like to rent an apartment in a location where we can walk to the sights. What would you recommend? Navona looks like a good central location, but who knows. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
In June 2010, after the Euromeet in Krakow you are invited to Sibiu, Romania. The updated informations, traveling to Sibiu, accommodation, schedule of events will be posted on the meeting page:
We are a group of 7 ranging from 78 years to almost 2 years old wanting to travel to Croatia from the UK in July next year. We are very keen but a few people have mentioned that it is expensive.
We were looking at one apartment for our family of 5 and one for my husband's parents. We found a few prices and they didn't seem that bad.
What sort of prices would be average for a moderate meal in a restaurant? Is it expensive to travel about?
I'm hoping to go to Iceland around the weekend of the 27th November. I'm looking at the packages available with Icelandair and am wondering if a fly drive might be the best option.
How difficult is it to drive there at this time of year? Our main interest is in the landscape so we'd hope to be venturing out of the city a bit!
I am planning on traveling from Sombor to Uzice around the 25th of November. I have never been farther south than Belgrade and I know only a little Serbian. So it's hard to look thing up or make calls on my own.
Can anyone tell me the prices for Buses and Trains traveling from Sombor to Uzice and back and also if there are many trains or one going all the way through..and would I first need to travel to another town like Backa Topola to catch a train??
i would like to redeem american airline miles for a flightto a place east of vienna. to do this they say it can not be done online. one must call by phone.

The question for most part is to members who live in St.Petersburg.
I'm planning to visit St.Petersburg this coming summer.
On my previous visits i stayed with relatives, friends and mini-hotels. The first and second option wasn't bad, but i felt somewhat restricted and obligated. The third choice was too expensive($160-$180 per night). So for last few months, i've been checking internet for apartment rentals and i found that this option isn't much cheaper (one room apart $120-$140). Since i want to rent it for a month the cost is $4000-15%=$3400 witch is close to 100000 rubbles.
So finally, my question is: Does anyone has or know of anyone willing to rent an apartment for a reasonable price?
Or: Is anyone planning to visit St.Petersburs in around aug.,sept. and willing to share the cost of apartment?
I speak of Calcata (not Calcutta), a tiny town just 30 miles of Rome. The town was mentioned in the latest National Geographic Traveller Magazine, and it has peaked my wee photographer's interest considerably. I've already accessed their own website, and I have really good info on how to get to it from Rome. However, if we (my mother and I on vacation) were already in the Tuscany region, and wanted to make a stop for the day in Calcata before heading down into Rome, is this possible? I'm looking at road maps and trying to figure out if there was an easy access to the town coming from the NORTH--does anyone have any good ideas? Oh, and here's the kicker--we aren't renting a car--we are taking the bus from Siena to Pienza, and then we WERE going to head over to Chiusi to catch a train to Rome, and then this article came out and now it's caused an uproar in my head. Maybe I should just take that train to Rome and daytrip it from there? Suggestions?
I am looking to go to Rhodes Greece next year, late June 2010 for 5-6 weeks.
I am looking for holiday house or unit to rent which would have to be fully furnished and accomodate 3-4 people. I have looked at hotels but it is abit expensive for this amount of time that's why I am thinking at looking at the holiday house option which might turn out cheaper for the time I want to stay in Rhodes
The areas which would be ideal would be in the Trianda/Lalyssos, Ixia or The Old Town in Rhodes. I would like to live close to the main part of Rhodes, Mandraki etc
If anyone could help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated as I have searched high and low on the net and not much comes up in this kind of accomodation.
My friend and I will have about 12 hours between flights in Frankfurt this week. We are en route to a warm vacation spot, but it will likely be quite cool in Frankfurt, so I'm looking for suggestions on what we should do in Frankfurt that won't have us outside most of the time. Aside from visiting the churches, which I have done before, but my friend has not, what would you recommend?
A Rome member and I are curious if anyone knows of a good "junk" shop in Rome. We like old things...curiosities, collectibles, 'antiques'(?) and would love to find one of those messy old musty shops where you can poke for hours and find little treasures that don't break the bank. Anyone know of such places in Rome or the outskirts?
My wife and I are new to the forum.. We don't travel much so I thought I would pose some questions to all those adventurous people who probably know how to have a good time!
We are planning a trip for June '10. We plan to visit Ireland, but we do not have a specific place in mind. I've taken a look at this bus tours that typically cost $1k-1.5k per person. On one hand, I think it would be a good idea because it alleviates the stress of figuring out where to visit - and figuring out how to get there, etc, etc. But on the other hand, I don't want our trip to be a "cookie cutter" trip.
In your opinion is it worth it to go with these travel tours? Is there a more interesting way to explore Ireland? Ideas?
I am going to Turkey via London in January. On my way back I will have about 7 hours before my flight back, so I was thinking of going for a quick tour of central London.
My idea is to take the express to Paddington, walk through Hyde park, walk towards Buckingham Palace and then go down The Mall to Trafalgar square and down to the Thames to see the river and House of Parliament. Do you think it's too much to manage in 3 hours please? What would you advise?
