Thunderbird Problem
Posted: Sun July 6, 2008 07:04 AM UTC
As suggested by a few of you I have given Windows mail and Outlook the flick and am using Thunderbird - and I do rather like it.

Only hassle is the clock is 26 hours out and I cannot adjust it. Tried following the Mozilla links but got very confused. Is there any easy way to adjust the time - short of uninstalling and reinstalling.......?????

I am about to go away and it is really important that I know when my emails are coming in...

Thanks for any help at all

VT comments on Firefox 3
Posted: Thu July 3, 2008 06:44 PM UTC
Hi everyone!

I'm currently trying out Firefox 3 and I seem to have a problem when I want to leave a comment on someone's page. So, I click on "Leave a comment for..." and when the window pops up, I can't type into the message box... The titlebar of the window looks inactive as well.

Is there someone else who has that problem?
In Safari everything works fine.

Thanks!

Greetings,

I can't close VT's newsletter pop up window
Posted: Thu July 3, 2008 10:40 AM UTC
But this only happens in FF. I click on "Close" or the "X" and nothing happens. I can log in and work on the site OK otherwise.

I have FF 2.0.0.15 if that's relevant.

Photos
Posted: Wed July 2, 2008 08:01 PM UTC
I can't seem to upload any photos. I did downsize them, it is the correct format. It can't be my connection. I upload bigger photos to Treklens and they work fine. The upload process starts but then takes forever and eventually I get an error message that says the page cannot be displayed. Any ideas why this happen?

Posted: Wed July 2, 2008 04:40 PM UTC
Ok...I uploaded my first video and tried to place it on my Bourges, France page.

It's not there. I can watch the video on my homepage if I click on "video" but it does not show up in the appropriate travel page of Bourges.
What did I do wrong?
Thanks

strange picture problem
Posted: Wed July 2, 2008 03:45 PM UTC
Hello,

The picture of a tip I recently made is processed badly after uploading.

See http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tp/1cb9a1/

When I wanted to delete it in order to to upload it again, I saw that the picture is displayed correctly in the section where you can edit the tip (at the same size).

What's going on and what should i do?

Cheers

Europe Travel - RAW file photo storage on the road - Camera security - Any advice?
Posted: Tue July 1, 2008 02:55 AM UTC
We are travelling through parts of England , Scotland, France and northern Italy for about 8 weeks from early October 08. I am taking a D-SLR and a couple of lenses. I am seeking advice on two particular issues.

1. What are peoples experiences of arranging to burn to disc/backup RAW images on the road? I will probably take four 2Gb SDHC cards with me giving me about 330 frames before I need to clear the cards. Option one seems to be to take a laptop with burner; simple solution. Another is to use local facilities. Any advice would be gratefully received.

2. I keep reading warnings about sharp knives, cut shoulder straps, and fleeing bag thieves on scooters in major european cities. Maybe we should all carry BIG side-arms? Kidding. I was planning to use my Lowepro slingshot bag. Just how dangerous is it to carry a dedicated camera bag like this? Should I perhaps offload gear into something less obvious? The Lowepro is the best bag I have ever used so I am reluctant to abandon it.

I'm 6 foot 2 inches tall and the tummy hasn't sagged too much for my age. Am I a less likely candidate for these morons?

thanks

United Kingdom - Tripod Hire
Posted: Tue July 1, 2008 02:29 AM UTC
Travelling into London in early October 08, train to Edinburgh, Inverness, tour Highlands, train to Borders, Northumberand; to Bath then London. While I own several good weight Manfrotto tripods here in Oz I am looking to hire one in UK rather than have excess baggage costs on airlines. Is this feasible? Does anyone know of appopriate gear hire businesses, say in London area? Period of hire will probably be about 3 weeks.

with thanks

Red eye

How can I eliminate red eye? I never have problem with canon powershot digicam but when I use my canon ixus cam, it turns out to be a major problem. Have tried red eye reduction mode, even used correction mode after shot, but nothing helps.

Havana & Varadero
Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 10:33 AM UTC
going to Cuba for 10 days in July.

I have read a lot of info posted, however can anyone give any updates on some of the usual questions?

Are there any blocks on credit cards ( US backed banks etc)?

What is the exchange rate from Sterling to CUC

What can you get for your money, i.e. meal in Havana with booze

Can you swim with the dolphins in Varadero?

Any particular trips not to miss in or from Havana?

Any other advice?

Cheers,

Bug in Notice console
Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 08:59 AM UTC
Generally, I click new notification in Notice Console to get that page directly. This time, I went directly to new notification manually via main page without using link on Notice console. After that I refreshed Notice console, it was still showing that notification as unread msg only.

This may be a bug.

I think it would be nice to have a "Reserve view order option" for picture presentation at a location- or member page.

How about it?

Memory card compatibility
Posted: Sat June 28, 2008 10:15 AM UTC
I have a Canon IXY 8 pixel camera. I went to buy a new larger memory card, and showed the salesman existing card, and camera. When I got it home I saw on the packaging a warning to check if the SDHC card is compatible with the device.
I checked the manual but it just mentions SD card. I'm leaving Uk on Tuesday, so have little time to take it back if it's wrong.
Anyone know and can help?

Notices console problems.
Posted: Fri June 27, 2008 03:04 PM UTC
Does anyone else have this problem.
I open my notices console and I have a number of comments on various pages listed. Lovely.
I start to go through them, clicking on one of my choice.
Deal with that and then I reopen the console to see the others and they have all gone down the proverbial gurgler !!??
So I can't respond if I wish to.
I went to my Broome page from my memory of seeing that 'visit' listed before it vanished. Thanks Pam!
Most disappointing ! Any clues please.

travel map..unsolved issues
Posted: Fri June 27, 2008 10:29 AM UTC
I posted this several months ago and never got a real answer.
When I select Massachusetts to indicate 'I have lived here' It turns red, but then when I click 'save' it never saves. I have tried this several times over the past few months and it never sticks. I know I am doing it right because New Hampshire works.
What gives?

Type of cruise
Posted: Thu June 26, 2008 05:59 PM UTC
I have been on one cruise and I didn't care for it, BUT someone on the ship told me about a type of cruise where the boat stays at a port for days and then moves to another port for a couple of more days. They don't let you out for just a couple of hours.

Video
Posted: Thu June 26, 2008 05:05 PM UTC
Hi,

I have got a question. I have made some videos in NYC and added at my NYC page. By some of these videos you have to move you head to the left to see them here on VT. For example: if you look at the Naked Cowboy video. Do you know how I should rotate that movie to normal view?

Thanks!

Cheers,
