Dumb Blonde Question.... Posted: Mon October 19, 2009 04:22 PM UTC
yah, yah, yah.....ok....Is it possible to post more than ONE comment on someone's page? Everytime I try to post a second comment, the original one pops up and I can erase it and rewrite one. The first might be years old....and perhaps I want it to remain for some reason. I did a brief little survey of my own and did not find two comments from one person on a homepage.
Perhaps it is possible and I just missed it and do not know how to do so.
Fire away.......

Map for Patuxent River NAS Posted: Sun October 18, 2009 07:47 PM UTC
I do not understand why the darkened area of the map for NAS Pax River does not cover the whole area of the base up to the gate. The edge of the base is right along MD Route 235 (Three Notch Road), but the dark area is way inside of that. Lexington Park is outside the base, and not overlapping into it.

Notices not opening in Mozilla Firefox Posted: Sun October 18, 2009 05:46 PM UTC
Since yesterday I have tried opening notices but it seems to open in a new page with the same page that I am viewing. Don't know what is the glitch. Is it happening with everyone or is it something only I am facing? Have not been able to configure what is causing the problem. Hope something is done to fix it or someone can tell me what to do to make it work again if I am doing something wrong.
Cheers,
Aadil.

Slow start up Posted: Sat October 17, 2009 10:08 AM UTC
My Compaq laptop is taking forever to start up - about 4 minutes. It was fine until about a week ago - has something attached itself to the start up menu perhaps? Any help would be welcomed.

Web Cam Posted: Fri October 16, 2009 02:58 AM UTC
Good day my VT friends,
I have a great HP laptop, which I use for all sorts of purposes.
16 months old, in built webcam and microphone.
Skype it all over the world!
Last few days, webcam has packed up. I can see video and hear people on Skype:
No video of me on there. Is it a software issue or me being a ***?
Little blue light 4 webcam looks like it is on standby.
Not fully lit.
Any advise would be greatly apreciated.
Thank you, Mr Bean (Jon Kay)

Printing photos - layout problems Posted: Wed October 14, 2009 06:02 PM UTC
When I changed my printer (to a Epson Stylus D92) I uninstalled all the software that came with my old printer.
I used the old printing/organising software and it was a pleasure to use because it stepped-through the photos you wanted to select, the type of paper, the layout and the quality and then sent this away to the printer.
I don't print many but tend to print quite a few on 6" x 4" photo paper - putting two or four onto a sheet which I then cut up to give me wallet-sized photos. I do sometimes do 6 x 4 or even A4-sized photos.
I cannot do this easily now - does anyone have a suggestion for some (free?) print software that can be used to easily print multiple photos onto one sheet and where I can select whether that sheet is A4, 4 x 6, etc etc?
It needs to be printer-independent as i plan to change printers again in the next 12 months.

Is New Zealand a problem? Posted: Wed October 14, 2009 02:43 AM UTC
First I could not find it on my map.
Then I found it but it would not click on it to green, blue, or red etc.
Then I tested to see if I could add it, and yes it went blue but on the map it still was reacting to clicking.
Since I have yet to go to New Zealand I then wanted to change it back to white, or at least green, but I cannot seem to get this to happen.
I guess I will just have to visit soon. Until that happens my map is a lie.

My Monthly Whinefest About Slow-Loading Photos... Posted: Tue October 13, 2009 04:27 PM UTC
Yep, I'm bellyaching about it again. ...Everything else seems to load quickly--(especially the Flash banner ads!), but whenever I click on a user's "Photos" tab or try to browse a location's pics, I might as well go get a coffee. ...And never mind when you click a photo to enlarge it--that takes a dog's age. These aren't big photos (file-size-wise or dimension-wise), they should load almost instantaneously!!
I see a lot of back-and-forth traffic between VT and the "google-analytics" site while this is happening. Maybe you should nix all that code? Go with a "real" web reporting tool like WebTrends? VT wasn't this slow a year or two ago...

Aaargh! IE8. Posted: Sun October 11, 2009 10:28 AM UTC
I have installed IE8 (using XP), having successfully used IE6 up till now.
OK. Bearable. Everything seems to be working ok, though I loathe tabs with a vengeance.
But I cannot access any videos at all on youtube. Just mostly blank thumbnails and a 'you may have java turned off or need to install the latest flashplayer' message.
I don't normally go on youtube much, I just follow the occasional link posted here. I'm used to the message appearing for odd videos but I can't get any of them to work now.
I have installed Adobe Flashplayer 10. I have enabled all the Java buttons I can find using the tools>internet options menu. I have restarted my comp (more than once, actually).
Any ideas? If not, I shall be seriously tempted to use sysrestore and go back to IE6. Grrrrrrrr....

Wireless printer! Posted: Sat October 10, 2009 06:34 PM UTC
I am at the point of buying a HP Laser Jet Pro 8500 printer.
It is a photo quality, built in scanner laser printer.
I need this printer for my new business venture of producing Funeral Order of Service cards.
My inkjet is fine but when I am in a rush there is no time for the ink to dry before I copy on the reverse side.
So the question, It only comes as a wireless printer, what else will I need on my pc to make this work, I have no other wireless applications on my pc?
Help please :o(
I’m not too pc savvy :o)

New custom HP 9000 - wrong power cord Posted: Fri October 9, 2009 10:59 PM UTC
In Italy w/new US HP 9000 - adapter 85V
Am using an Italian 2-prong power cord which is compatible with the 2-prong electrical plug. Problem is that this power cord seems to cause overheating of the 85V adapter and the computer battery inside the laptop.
I have been unable in the past to find a 3-prong power cord that comes with the 2-prong plug for Italian electrical system.
How can I resolve?

My laptop's identity crisis Posted: Fri October 9, 2009 10:51 PM UTC
History:
HP lives w/me in Rome
HP trying to be Italian but is hopelessly American!
HP crashed - unable to re-install - no disks
Italian friend fixed - installed new hard drive
I changed language on MS OK
I now have a US keyboard w/Italian language system - control panel, etc.
Also, keyboard is not compatible w/new Italian hard drive
Is there any way to change the language and sync the keyboard to the system
Reason tells me not - but thought I would check w/wizards here

Excel/Pivot Tables/Macro question... Posted: Fri October 9, 2009 07:18 PM UTC
this might be a long shot but someone here might just have some advice for me...
does anyone know if there is there a way to set the size of a pivot table in excel (not set the size of what data is return, top 5, etc, but to set the actual table size itself)? I ask this as a solution to help me create a macro that will copy and paste 68 sets of pivot data into a customized "shell" for reporting purposes.
68 sets of pivot data for 19 different departments makes for a sad girl behind the desk and i am trying to get this somewhat automated. I created a macro to update all 68 pivot tables each time i select a new department, but now i need to copy this into a template for each and was hoping to create a macro for this as well.
Because pivot tables change sizes depending on the data (sometimes there is NO data, sometimes 20 rows of data, etc.) and because most of my pivots are set to a MAX of say 5 or 10 - is there a way to keep the TABLE at MAX 10 but only fill in one of those rows if there is only one row of data to display???
i want to set up my macro to copy and paste 10 ROWS from said table, even if only one is filled in.
i think this is impossible to do with my limited knowledge and i am probably asking for more than is possible..
but maybe someone knows. or knows a better way to do this (and please don't say go to IT to have this automated, etc. it does me no good. I also cannot use Access for these specific reports for other reasons.)
thank you :/

What "light" HD Camera should I buy for travel? $300-$500 budget Posted: Fri October 9, 2009 08:17 AM UTC
I am planning a trip to Tokyo this December, and although I will only be there for a week, I need a well balanced "all around" camera for my personal use on other trips and at home too. I consider myself a techy when it comes to computers or most hardware and software, but with cameras I am all thumbs!
Basically,
I have between $300 and $500 dollars to spend, and I want an HD camera. 720p or 1080p doesn't matter to me. The issue I am dealing with though, is that the "clunky" cameras with the different lenses tend to produce the best stills, while digital cameras although compact and attractive, have less quality in what they can do. I would prefer something that is good all around and can take detailed still shots while still providing some nice HD quality video too. I was looking at the "Flip UltraHD 120 Min" and was impressed by it's price, but found out it can't take memory cards and doesn't take stills directly, you have to take them out of your video.
You could say I would prefer a sleek digital camera, but whats more important to me is HD snapshots and video. If the flip was 200 dollars and offered HD video, I should easily be able to find something within my budjet that is much better. I don't mind having to buy extra SD cards either, I plan on taking alot of pictures and video.
Please give suggestions, I would be very grateful asap! :)

I gave an advise on a tourcompany I already knew to be reputable, but added that a link on their page to TripAdvisor, was an added plus. Was I wrong?

travelogues? Posted: Wed October 7, 2009 10:17 PM UTC
I see a lot of travelogues on other people's pages, but there is no place for me to add these neat little gadgets to my pages. For example, there is nothing here for Bear River, and I have just been for a visit, got lots of neat photos. The page only allows me three photos, and I've put some photos with my tips, but there's so much more visual to share for this little town. A travelogue or two on my Bear River Page would allow me to do this beautiful little spot justice.

VT "your travel pages" Posted: Tue October 6, 2009 03:40 PM UTC
What´s with the - BLUE "Been there" and RED "Lived there" functions on my "travel pages"?
It seems that every time I look at it there are "BLUES" and "REDS" missing from my map. The total of countries visited doesn´t look to be affected but it´s quite a bother re-clicking the "been there" and "lived there" buttons again and again. Do other members have the same problem?

How to Add a (New) Locations Posted: Tue October 6, 2009 11:51 AM UTC
I have been to some remote areas in Northern Pakistan and somewhat feel proud that I have been to a place(s) which even VT does not recognise :)
For instance, I have been to Kachura Lake this July, but am not able to build a page because VT does not recognise such a place. I have tried different spellings and even did a manual search from Pakistan destinations, but nothing worked out for me.
Now, please help what to do?
