Is it just my imagination or has there been a recent deterioration in the VT photo presentation? They still look just as good when I look at them directly on my computer from the original files, but they do not look as clear on VT as I think they used to. Is this related to new VT changes?

PS: I used to have awful time out losses of tips, but have not experienced this recently. I have gotten in the habit of saving work in a separate file if I fear I might get a time out loss. It certainly is frustrating to be working a long time on a complicated tip or forum reply and then lose all our work to a time out.

More often than not - my bold formatting does not hold. Anyone else? Thought before it was my computer but now have a brand new HP so I suspect it is a bug in VT?

What the Heck is happening?
Wasted about - I don't know how many bites - or whatever they are called of my ISP's monthly Bandwidth Allowance - trying to write new travel pages and tips and upload photos - in the last 24 hours.
ALL timed out.
There must be a better way than this!

I can find my latest postings but not the earlier ones.
After I find them, can I post a whole Post with all the replies to someone who isn't a member (yet) ?

I gave it 12 hours, but it's still November 2 in VT calendar land!

I wrote a life story for my cat Scionnach and posted it on Sunday night (Monday morning?) at http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/ae40e/#TL . Since the original document was in Word, it used by default "smart quotes" and other punctuation beyond the standard ASCII character set.

I cut and pasted the text (maybe from a browser window for the HTML version rather than directly from Word, I forget) into the Travologue editor. When I viewed the document yesterday here on VT, it looked fine.

But today, the special punctuation has been changed, and not just changed in how it displays in the browser, but changed in the actual source code when I bring it up to edit. For example, in the original, I wrote in the second paragraph ‘teenager’, using the smart single quote. Now, it has been changed overnight into ¡®teenager¡¯, where each smart quote is now a two-character string led by an upside exclamation point.

What gives? Is it that when I copied the text, even though it looked like ASCII characters and even displayed correctly at first, that it was actually a unicode or similar text sequence that VT expands at some point? P.S., I know it displayed correctly yesterday, because I caught a typo of mine upon reviewing it and I changed it...I certainly would have changed this too had it been visible.

I wanted you guys to see this before I went in and manually corrected it...

I think that I remember kiwi once mentioning that if you save a tip to a your own folder that it counts the same as giving a rating of 5. Is that correct? Anyone know?

Why? I'm researching a trip and saving tips. Want to know if I also need to give a rating, or if saving the tip does the job.

When I try to read the postings on the Krakow Euromeet page there are no more recent postings than August 2 to see. There are 38 pages in all on the "main page". What has happened, has it been overloaded or anything? This problem has been there for a while now when I've tried to get info on the meeting.

People who know me here on VT will know I am completely useless at technology. However, I have recently acquired a video camera and wanted to upload a short clip onto VT.

On the upload page, I am prompted to accept the Terms and Conditions. When I looked at this, it appears to refer to something called Fliqz and mentions fees etc. If I agree to these terms and conditions, does this mean I am obligated in some way to Fliqz and may be liable to charges? I do not want to sign up to Fliqz other than to use VT.

Sorry if this sounds typically stupid and I am missing something really obvious.

The map on my travel pages is giving me a pain in the neck.

I have a couple of countries in South America that I want in green, not blue - haven't been there, want to visit.

I can change the colour to green by clicking on them, but when I click on 'save map' it just keeps saving, and saving, and saving and... it never finishes and it *doesn't* save. The next time I open it both of those countries are in blue again :(

Any ideas on what to do?

Seems that if I am doing my banking details or emails online in a public area, my details can easily be hacked.
According to the expert: "You don't have to be a super hacker to get into this sort of information and therefore it's becoming more widespread and we as consumers need to be more careful about how we use them and what we use them for."

What should we do to combat this whilst we sip our coffee at the wi-fi connected cafe? Can we all get a Virtual Private Network easily ? Help - I have just got a new Netbook and need to take it away next week PROTECTED !

Any update on when the improvements will be made? I think last I heard was October, and it's now October 29th.
I know I have said this over and over again, but it is so frustrating to spend time writing a tip, only to have it time out.

There is a free download on the Wii shopping channel for an internet browser (can't remember what it's called) but its easy to download and use.

Well, when I say easy, I THINK there is a way to connect a keyboard which I am hoping to find soon - otherwise you have to "aim" your hand controller at a little keypad and "type in" W.....W.....W..../../..v..i..r..t..u..a..l..t..o..u..r..i..s..t..etc etc!

Anyway - my question is that not all sites display properly or at all (I'll try VT tonight) and I wondered if this is a "feature" of the Wii, or if it is to-do with my TV settings etc?

so that whenever I want to click on something a new window doesn't appear? I realised I had 47 open windows after playing around VT this afternoon. It only does it on my work computer, so i need the answer here while I'm still at work! ;)

Question: I am working on my pages and using vtml to have colored script. When I access it through my blackberry phone I see nothing there. When I acces other members pages, theirs shows up. What have I done wrong here?

In a thread further down unaS mentions a restart button. The very first computer we used had one of these buttons, the one we've been using for many years now doesn't. Ctrl - Alt - Del often doesn't work as well, when it freezes.
UnaS mentions holes which can be pushed by a ballpoint to restart the computer.

There are three holes next to the main button on my computer, one with the symbol of an envelope, the other two are circles, one with a small dot in the centre and the other with a straight line coming from the centre.

Is one of these the restart button? I'd like to know a bit more, before I start trying out ballpoints in all of these holes.

UnaS, if you happen to read this, could you tell me more, please? Or has anyone else tried pushing these holes?

I am not having a problem with my notebook. I am having a problem with the store that sold it. When applying for eligibility for the upgrade to Windows 7 the manufacturer MSI advise me they never brought this EX623 model into this country. Therefore they are unable to offer the upgrade. The store I bought it from is part of a national chain so what the ******* is going on? Anyone have a similar problem?

Late last night, around 11 PM EST my computer froze while in VT. I tried to hop around from notices to email or to homepage etc and nothing happened. So I decided to just log out and go to bed. Then I could not even log out. Could not close down the computer so I went to bed and figured it would close itself eventually in the middle of the night? So........was it JUST ME? And obviously it cleared up because here I am this morning....yeah ....:-)

I have noticed today that comments I have posted on other members pages have taken an age to appear even after several "Refreshes".

I have received notice of a new Comment on one of my pages long before it appears on the page.

How do I get more than 8 photos per travelogue?

i will be getting my computer back in a day or two after the hard drive crashed, presumably in far better shape. i will need a " window washer " to clear out unwanted data, memory, history, and what not. any suggestions?

I posted this issue some time back and now have it on two different computers. I used to be able to click on a link under "notices" and go immediately to that page regardless of where I currently was on the site. Now, the only time a link seems to work is if I click them while displaying my Home Page. That's creating a lot of time-consuming toggling back and forth - generally a pain.

First had this problem after updating Safari on my Mac at home so figured that might be it but just in past week, I've developed the same problem on my Mac at work - which hasn't had any recent updates I can blame it on. Anyone else having this problem?

Had a video I tried to upload today (small one 98MB). Took over 2 hours and didn't even get to 60% done. I know my connection is not the greatest but even that was pretty awful. Is there a better way?

There are comments and ratings for pages and tips, ratings for travel advice, but no way of knowing if and how many people watch a video and if they enjoyed it, or thought it rubbish.
I now am sending mail telling folk I watched and enjoyed a video.
Can we not have something like the hits on a Home Page?

Can someone enlighten me as to why is it near impossible to clear stuff on my notices. No matter how many times I click on it, it just won't let me clear it. I never used to have any problem doing it until recently.

yah,yah, yah.....ok....Is it possible to post more than ONE comment on someone's page? Everytime I try to post a second comment, the original one pops up and I can erase it and rewrite one. The first might be years old....and perhaps I want it to remain for some reason. I did a brief little survey of my own and did not find two comments from one person on a homepage.
Perhaps it is possible and I just missed it and do not know how to do so.

I do not understand why the darkened area of the map for NAS Pax River does not cover the whole area of the base up to the gate. The edge of the base is right along MD Route 235 (Three Notch Road), but the dark area is way inside of that. Lexington Park is outside the base, and not overlapping into it.

Since yesterday I have tried opening notices but it seems to open in a new page with the same page that I am viewing. Don't know what is the glitch. Is it happening with everyone or is it something only I am facing? Have not been able to configure what is causing the problem. Hope something is done to fix it or someone can tell me what to do to make it work again if I am doing something wrong.
