Hi,
have seen plenty about the political trouble in BKK, yesterday my travel agent called to ask whether I want to cancel the trip and go elsewhere. My trip is booked on 24th and the plan was 3 days in BKK + 18 days in Pattaya + 3 days back in BKK, can anybody tell me about the situation in Pattaya, has there been any impact at all ? is it still worthwhile of going to BKK ?

Thanks !!

San Francisco Travelling from San Francisco to Manhattan Beach
Posted: Fri September 5, 2008 10:32 AM UTC
Hi, I will be travelling, with my 25 year old son, from San Francisco to Manhattan Beach, CA on October 6, 2008. He will be the one doing all the driving and we have rented a Dodge Durango for a week. This is the first time my son drives in the States, we live in Milan, Italy, (I was born and grew up in S.F. but have been living in Italy for the past 30 years). In the past and with my husband we would normally take the 1 we had time and slowly but surely we got to L.A. enjoying the coast. We have to be at Manhattan Beach by 6pm/7pm of the same day that we are leaving S.F. How long would it take us if we took the 101, are there places to stop off on the way south and is it safe? Which other route can be taken that is safe and not slow, taking into consideration that my son will be the only one driving. Thanks so much.

Las Vegas Driving In Las Vegas
Posted: Fri September 5, 2008 09:53 AM UTC
Hello, Am looking for some tips to help with driving in Vegas. After picking up our rental car we want to go up to the Sahara hotel/Casino. Looking for a way to drive up there that Avoids the Strip. I don't have that great of a map, but am wondering if Paradise Road is an option? We would like to drive to the Sahara on an alternate route, then when we leave drive all the way down the strip as we make our way to our lodgings, which are the very South end of the strip...I have heard that traffic on the strip is very conjested. Can anyone suggest alternate routes, or short cuts from the Cancun Resort to the hotels on the strip where we could valet park? We don't mind using public transportation and walking either, but know we will want to take the car out some of the time, especially as one member of our party can't walk long distances because of a leg brace. Would also appreciate suggestions on best routes/scenic drives between Las Vegas and Mount Charleston, and also Hoover Dam & Lake Mead. Those are the two out of town places some of us will be visting. Any suggestions regarding the driving will be appreciated. Thanks!

Cuba How much spending money and where should we go?
Posted: Fri September 5, 2008 08:56 AM UTC
Hi everyone,
My friends and I are travelling to Cuba in mid October. We will be there for 17 days and are pretty much going to play it by ear in terms of where we go.
Can anyone help me with suggestions of things/ places we MUST see and do? Also, things to avoid if possible?
If anyone could take a guess at how much spending money we will require that would be extremely beneficial as well - we're not looking at spending big money and will be happy with hostels, up to 2 star hotels. How much should we budget per day?
Thanks very much in advance everyone!
Cheers,

Rather than get an expensive NYE package holiday we are going it alone, have booked flights and apartment, but unsure of what to do on the evening of the 31.12.08. I know there is bonfires and fireworks, but what time is that and where? Also can someone suggest a good restaurant - close to the action?

Europe Need Help on Solo Traveling in France, Switzerland, Netherlands please...
Posted: Fri September 5, 2008 06:44 AM UTC
Hello,

I am new here and apologize if this in the wrong forum. I am studying abroad in Athens, however I really have not bonded with any of the people so it looks like I will be traveling solo. This is a daunting task, so I was hoping maybe someone could give me some advice. We have a long break in October from the 23rd to Nov. 2nd. I was roughly planning to visit Paris, Amsterdam, and either Geneva or Zurich (although if anyone has any modified suggestions, please let me know). So I already have a Eurorail Flexipass (good for 10 days). I know flying to the destination country is a must from Athens. I was thinking of maybe flying from Athens to Paris. Then after Paris taking the train to Amsterdam, then after Amsterdam taking the train to Zurich or Geneva, then the train back to Paris where I would fly out of (bc flights thus far seem cheaper from Paris to Athens than Amsterdam and Switzerland). I know it seems odd going in a triangle like that, but in my head it seemed to make sense. I guess I'm curious if this is a lucid idea to anyone else. Please let me know if I'm missing something, like you can't take the train to one of the places or the eurorail pass can't be used, ect. Also if anyone knows of any cheap hotels/hostels, or has any ideas on how to improve/modify/implement this please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm a little hesitant about traveling solo, but I refuse to not enjoy Europe because I don't like the other students here.

Thanks so much

Nepal Tibet to Nepal then back to Tibet, is it possible?
Posted: Fri September 5, 2008 05:34 AM UTC
I would ideally like to go overland from Lhasa to Kathmandu then back again. I have the required double entry visa for China, but some people have said it's difficult to enter China from Nepal. Has anyone done this? I'm your standard backpacker and I couldn't afford to go with an expensive Chinese tour group.

Milan Travelling by train to and from Milan
Posted: Fri September 5, 2008 05:31 AM UTC
Hi there,

I keep reading about on how unsafe traveling by train to and from Milan is, my aunty lives in the outer suburbs, possibly a half hour train ride from the city and we wanted to use this as a base to travel to Venice and Lake Como. I know that we should have our usual wits about us but is Milan Central Station any different in terms of safety compared to other major city stations in the world?

Would travelling to outer suburbs be unsafe for a young couple?

thanks in advance for your responses!

Barcelona Music
Posted: Fri September 5, 2008 05:23 AM UTC
Can anybody recommend some spanish music for me. I heard some amazing acoustic spanish songs by a young fella in a bar and now i have lost the info about the bar and the name of the artist.

I am open to whatever but a few acoustic recommendations plus other idea would be good. Any artists that might be "hot" in Spain right now, etc..

Thanks

State of Tasmania Travelling in Tassie in March
Posted: Fri September 5, 2008 05:07 AM UTC
Hi, My husband and I are going spend just over 2 weeks travelling around Tassie in March 2009. We are starting out in Hobart spending 3 or 4 days there (which we will book accommodation for)and doing a couple of day trips close by. We will then be travelling up the East Coast and doing a full circle back to Hobart. We wondered whether it would be safe to 'chance' our accommodation or if it advisable to book in advance. We will have a hire car and are happy to stay in any form of accomm. (cabins, motels or b&b's). It would be good to hear other travellers experiences at this time of year....

Hi,

What's the easiest way to get from Treviso airport (arriving at 2.30pm on a weekday) to Murano (Hotel Conterie)? Only hand luggage so trains/boats no problem.

Thanks!
