Australia Voluntary work
Posted: Sat October 11, 2008 12:34 PM UTC
Hi all

Can anybody tell me how it works with voluntary work in OZ, I really want to go next April, could i arrange from home (UK) to do some voluntary work on a ranch, in exchange for accommadation and meals, or is this still classed as working, i read on some websites that you can do voluntary work as long as it's incidental, does that mean i can only look for vol work while am there, i am 32, and realise i can't get a working visa, so i would be going on a tourist visa, any help at all would be great, i have posted this question on other oz websites, but never had any replies.

Thanks

New York City Christmas and New Year's Eve dinner suggestions?
Posted: Sat October 11, 2008 12:22 PM UTC
Hello! I will be in town for Christmas and NYE this year and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for dinner on both nights? I read through the forums but only found a few suggestions. It's getting near to the deadline to make holiday reservations and I want to get them in soon.
For Christmas I'm hoping to find a smaller more intimate kind of restaurant, any cuisine is fine. For new years I'm thinking some place close to Central Park so we can walk over and watch the fireworks. Or what are your thoughts about one of those dinner cruises? Too stuffy?

By the way, can you bring a bottle of champagne into the park?

This will be my 8th visit to NYC and the way the economy is going, might be the last in a while. So I want to make it a memorable one!

Aloha,
Jonathan

will be traveling to HK and then upward to SZ and Guangzhou next month.

Had prepared both HKD and CNY for the trip.

In the event i run out of HKD and i need urgently some extra HKD while in HK, how easily can i exchange my CNY into HKD and any idea what is the current rate in the off market (I have checked Yahoo Finance today 1.135 HKD to 1 CNY)? Who is giving a better rate the bank or those money changer booths in the city ?

World House-boats Regent Canal, London
Posted: Sat October 11, 2008 09:38 AM UTC
I was in London this summer, and walked along the Regent Canal towards Regent Park, and saw several house-boats there.

Does anyone know if people are living in them permanently or if they can be rented? It seemed very cosy, living in a house-boat in the middle of London!
(I imagine it's pretty expensive as well)!

Banff Banff tours from Calgary
Posted: Sat October 11, 2008 09:09 AM UTC
Hello everyone
i would really like to receive some advice in regard to Banff
I am going to be in Calgary for about 3 days this December and i really
want to visit banff and all of its attractions (gondola, lake louise, hot springs). The sad news is that most one day tours from calgary to banff end in October.

Does anyone know of any tours in december?
Also if i decide to spend the night in banff which hostel or budget accomodation is good?

One more question; as i am going to Yellowknife after Banff i need to buy some pretty warm clothes to wear in -40C weather. Are there any second hand shops in calgary which sell those types of clothes?

Thanks

please feel free to contact me at damianipiero@hotmail.com
if you have any advice of any kind for me

Perth Need some input on my trip itinerary
Posted: Sat October 11, 2008 06:41 AM UTC
Hi, I'm planning a family trip to Perth Nov this year. There are 6 adults and 2 kids (aged 4 and 1) for this trip.

We will be staying in Duke's Apartment, Wellington Street.

This is the itinerary I have planned :

Day 1 : ETA around 3pm
Day 2 : City Tour & King's Park
Day 3 : Freemantle, Burswood Casino, Chinatown
Day 4 : Perth Zoo, Swan River
Day 5 : Leave for home

For Day 1, any suggestion where we can go after we checked into our apartment? Any cheap eats nearby where we can have dinner? What is the cost of meals like in Perth?

Is the itinerary too hectic or too relaxed? Does the itinerary make sense travelling from one destination to another?

Thanks in advance for your replies

Europe sidetrip to...
Posted: Sat October 11, 2008 06:23 AM UTC
Traveling from US to visit a friend in Utrecht in mid-November. She has to work during the week, so I'd like to take a bit of a side trip (2-3 days max) whilst I'm there. Thought about Split, Croatia but seems like a hassle/expensive to get there. Considered a driving experience on the Autobahn but looking for something more. I like water/sea areas, perhaps someplace warm, but not critical. Only other euro countries I've been to: Greece/France. Shouldn't break the bank -- and an easy plane/train ride from Amsterdam or Brussels. Suggestions appreciated!
