hi tham..
there is really nothing of interest in kota baru... you should visit some of the nice thai temples north of kota baru... but you will need to drive.... the sunday market.... maybe the songket factories... the beaches used to be nice... such as the beach of passionate love (now re-named pantai cinta berahi..)... but erosion has taken its toll... maybe beaches in bachok is better, i was told but never been there... the normal tourist circuit here includes a visit to sungai golok across the river and border to thailand for shopping... but due to the unrest, this is not recommended.... btw, the bird flu is now in kelantan, so beware... regards.chia

Hi!
Agree with Chia, Kelantan has nothing much to offer for touristy stuff. Anyway, while in KB you can check out the Bank Kerapu (former Std Chratered Bank that's been converted into a museum, the sti Khadijah Market (all women traders here) and more shopping at Sg Golok that's close to the Thai border. BTW, the Pantai Cinta Berahi (beach of passionate love or PCB) has been renamed to a more appropriate name - Pantai Cahaya Bulan :) -m-

Hi,
I think the open air food stall is a must for traveller. Nice local food, try "Nasi Dagang", This is my favorite. Do you like tradisional old fashion of Chinese Breakfast? Kopi O and half boiled egg and toast? Ask for "White House" somewhere near the stadium. This is the place I always hang around during morning, when I was in Kelantan. Having good sweet time and have newspaper on hand.... oh. what a wonderful time.

Oh, additional of the open air night market, if there are no changes (I have not been there for three years), the food stall are surroundding the compound and in the middle are those stall selling other snacks or kuih. You can always buy food from the middle stall and sit at the outer ring food stall provided you order drinks from them.
If you wanna have better experience, eat with your hand!! In the morning, you can good to the grand market. It is good spot for photography, and upstairs have a lot of small stalls.... you might find lobster there!!! I have one for only RM 7 4 years ago, not sure about now.

Agree that there's nothing much touristy to see in Kelantan. Must check out the thai temples north of Kota Bahru, there's one buddha statue that's deemed to be the biggest in asia. worth visiting some small batik factories. If you have the time, take your passport with you and cross over to Golok, the border town on Thailand. It's pretty much a smaller version of Hatdyai.
Nothing much to say about the local chinese food, definitely must try local malay food.. yum yum especially nasi minyak, nasi lemak, and don't forget keropok lekor. My friend took me to a nightmarket that has delicious spring chicken rice, but can't remember the place.
