Sorry, can't help in San Salvador since I stayed with a friend... However, if you have a couple of days i'd go to the small town of Periquin, which was the headquarters of the FMLN guerilla movement during the bloody Civil War of El Salvador. Today, members of the FMNL have created the Museo de la Revolucion Salvadoreña in Periquin. It is an amazing museum! Definitly gives you a different angle to that country.
