| Sukhothai | From Vientiane to Sukhothai Posted: Thu September 9, 2004 03:39 PM UTC
I'm coming from Vientiane, Laos going to Sukhothai, Thailand and I was wondering what the best way to do this by land. My guess is to take transport over the border to Nong Khai and then to take the train or bus to Khon Kaen. However I haven't been able to find any info about buses between Khon Kaen and Sukhothai. Anyone know about this or a better way to go between these two places? Thanks

Hi -
Your best bet is probably to travel via Phitsanulok - according to my LP guide you can get there from both Udon Thani and Khon Kaen. Once you get to Phitsanulok, you can change buses and the trip to Sukhothai should take you another hour. Hope this helps... Cheers, Jeremy

Hi,
Jeremy is right. Nakhonchai Air buses make this run. They only run a couple of times a day and it takes a while but they are air con and quite comfortable. I have taken the Khon Kaen - Chiangrai run - they all pass thru P'lok. Make sure you book a seat in advance or you will be standing. Have fun.
