Try the bus-line operated by OSE (the railway company). Phone nbr in Thessaloniki 2310599100. Also, a Bulgarian company MatPu has buses at least once a day, they sell tickets through Zorpidis, phone nbr in Thessaloniki 2310256502. Travel time should be around 8 hours, depending on how long it takes to process the whole bus at the border. As for the price, better ask yourself - both company have reduced prices for young people.
Hope that helps.

you could take a night train from thessa to sofia and then take bus or train to plovidiv from sofia...there are many trains and buses that run to plovidiv each hour...the night train is the balkan express and is a pretty nice train...took the same train from sofia to budapest

I took the bus last year. It departs from the train station in Thessaloniki in the morning arriving late afternoon in Plovidiv. If I remember correctly the price was 25 EURO. Also took the train years ago, it's a lot slower.
