We will be traveling next summer to Jackson and will be driving. We would like to know what is the best route to go from Jackson to Cody?

You simply MUST go through Yellowstone National Park, out the northeast gate (Silver Gate). This will put you on the BEARTOOTH HIGHWAY (US212). This is one of the most dramatic, spectacular scenic highways in the entire US of A!

Then take #120 to CODY. However, you may also want to take a side-tour enroute to Cody and drive a bit of the CHIEF JOSEPH HIGHWAY (#296) as well.

This is a beautiful area and if you have the time, drive the scenic byways "just for the view".

If you can, and if the weather forecast is with you (clear skies). Leave Jackson before dawn and get up near the Jackson Lake Lodge area to watch the sunrise hit the Grand Tetons - magical.

If you dont have the time to take the bear tooth highway, the direct drive from Yellowstone to Cody is a nice drive. Stop at Pahaska just outside the park boundary and see Buffalo Bills original hunting lodge.

The road from east Yellowstone to Cody is gorgeous. We saw a bear right by the roadside by the east entrance. When in Cody, don't miss the outdoor rodeo (every night) and plan on spending a FEW days at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center Museum. It was amazing. Five museums in one, your ticket gets you two days, and you'll need it. The American Indian museum is the most techno-fun exhibit I've seen ever. And the Buffalo Bill Wild West show memorabilia is great. If you like Western art, they have a ton of bronzes, sketches, painting and all by Remington and Russell and many others. They even have recreated Remington's studio onsite. Have fun!
