Hi!
OK, It's "Comfort Hotel Sapporo S3 W9 " :-) (address 9, Minamisanjo-nishi, Chuo-ku, Sapporo-city, Hokkaido) It take about 8 minutes from "Susukino" Station(subway). I've never been there, but "Susukino" is central Sapporo and is famous for noodle stalls. Oh, you will drive to the hotel? I guess, you will arrive at "Shin Chitose Airport (New Chitose Airport)". It will take about 60 minutes by car to central Sapporo. Here's a map between the New Chitose Airport and Sapporo. Hope this helps. http://www.new-chitose-airport.co.jp/english/index.html In this map, you can find the way from the airport to Sapporo, and then you can see "Susukino" Station and "Odori Park". Your hotel is near them. Once you arrive "Susukino", it will be easy to find your hotel, I guess. Roads in central Sapporo are built like a matrix, so people can find out where the address indicates. Good luck! Ayurin in Osaka :-)

Hi Ayurin
You are an absolute angel thankyou! After speaking to a guy called cliff claven on here about driving in sapporo he reminded me that the roads will be covered in snow and ice in december i prospect i dont like the thought of! so have opted for the public transport option i take it i can ride a train from Shin Chitose airport to susukino station (eat some noodle!) then easily make my way to my hotel? Thankyou again so much for your help look after yourself all the best Mark. P.S when i fly back to the uk from sapporo i have to go via Osaka airport whats it like?

Hi again :-)
Oh, yes! You will be in Sapporo in winter! Yes, I agree it is better to move from the airport to Sapporo downtown by public transportation. :-) By the way, you will transit at Osaka Airport? I guess, you mean "Kansai" international airport in Osaka. It is a new (10-year -old) airport on a manmade island.(in Osaka Bay) You will stay overnight in Osaka? (I & my husband live in Osaka :-) ) Ayurin

Do what I do: TAKE A TAXI THE FIRST TIME, check in, grab matchbook (or anything else with hotel name on it) and immediately walk back to the station. This has worked every time.
BTW: Sapporo is THE slipperyest place I've ever been. Reason is that, during most winter days temp. gets a little above freezing, melts the snow into ice. Then about 1600 hrs, it refreezes. Wait until you see the taxi techniques of getting stopped without using studded tires. BTW: shoes with studs are rented at Chitose airport! I almost had to crawl across a street once! GOOD LUCK! (But I'll be up there for Yuki Matsuri too, first weekend of February...) Baku

check in then walk back to the station? hmm what does doing that help you with, surely once you have checked in you have made it? or do you do it purely to familiarise yourself with the place?
Regards M..

Well, I don't want to go broke riding taxis, and since it's WONDERFUL to walk the neighborhoods and learn about the locales, that's my technique. I pick a hotel within a reasonable distance (within 1 mile) of the station. I have better maps now, so sometimes don't have to take taxi. This has worked really well. In Morioka as we were heading to Ace Hotel (I like this place), passed a fun restaurant (Ariv!) and doubled back there for dinner. In TOKYO, took taxi first time from Ueno Station to hotel Yayoi Kaikan, and walked back to station. Then I had my bearings! You're free of the $5 charge the second your fanny touches the back seat... It adds up!
Sapporo is a WONDERFUL place to visit, but when it's icy, it has to be managed. ENJOY!!!!!!!
