A question for the locals

Do you guys still go to the Old Town considering that prices are about twice as high as elsewhere and you're in constant fear of being stampeded to death by lethal bus loads of package tourist. It's almost as bad as in Prague, but Tallinn is so much smaller, it simply can't accommodate all these masses. I'm really curious.

try to avoid it as much as possible... luckily there are few places that tourists haven't discovered yet :-)

I've been to Tallinn last august, and felt a bit "disappointed" for the same reasons you said... it's really TOO full of tourists (ok, August is probably the "worst" period, in that sense), and it seems hard to find some Estonian people in the Old Town!

But, going around the nice old streets of Tallinn, you can easily found also many places with almost no-one around, no souvenir shops, and it's really nice... it seems that the "hordes" of tourists just stay all around the market square, the Pikk jalg and not many other places... oh, and they all eat at Holde Hansa, of course, where the prices are really TOO high!

Anyway, I think that's good for Estonian people since they get much money from tourism, but they almost "lost" your wonderful old town, at least during summertime. I'd be curious to see Tallinn in winter, as well as Prague, I think it should be much nicer... hoping on the weather! ;-)

Well, our Old Town is a very special place for us, local people. Last years in summer you can really find lot of people on streets, in shops and bars and that is a nice change to empty streets you can see during long winter evenings. I love to walk there in summer or sit outside one of coffee shops and watch all that life around. But if to compare our local night life to that in Riga....
