| Fremantle | Visit Fremantle and Western Australia Posted: Tue August 31, 2004 12:03 PM UTC
We are planning a visit to WA (Fremantle/Perth) for one week in January as part of an around-the-world-trip.
On this moment thinking to visit: Rottnest Island, Pinnacles, "the loop Hyden/Rock Wave- Albany-Fremantle" and Fremantle and Perth Wating for tips and information about: - our itinerary and must see activities - accommodation in Fremantle, Cervantes, Hyden and Albany (we prefer smaller family hotels or B&B's, average priced) - reliable and affordable rental car companies looking forward to replies Jaap the Netherlands |

Hi Jaap,
With the Albany - Freemantle leg, does this include Demark, Augusta, Margaret River & Dunsborough, if not u should, some of the best wines in the world are being grown in this region. Throw in beaches too. Also expect it to be busy & expensive because this is our holiday period too. Baysater hire car are online & have reasonable rates unless u are looking at camper vans?.

Hi there Jaap Perth will be very hot in January so make sure you bring along a hat, sunglasses and sunblock especially for a day at Rottnest. The loop Perth-Hayden-Albany is covering apretty big area I assume you are doing an organised trip??? It is approx a 3 hour drive to Hayden/Wave Rock from Perth with nothing in between.
I would suggest while in Perth a day at Rottnest, a trip to Fremantle jail some great art work to be seen here, a river cruise of which there are several choices a quick trip from Fremantle to Perth where you can have a look around then catch the train back to Fremantle or there are all day wine crusies from Fremantle/Perth cruise up to a local winery for lunch enjoying a few of the local wines and back again. Also a visit to Kings' Park is a must. There is plenty to see around historic Fremantle it is easy to stroll around stopping at one of the many local restaurants for a bit to eat. Hope this information is helpful to you. Deb

Hi Jaap,
I am not sure you will be able to fit all that into one week. Remember distances are great and you don't want to spend all your time in a car. If you have to cut something out, don't go to the Pinnacles. Although it is "must stop and look" place to visit if you are driving by, I am not sure it is worth the drive up there and back if you only have a week to visit the whole region. I suggest you leave the Pinnacles to the last days of your trip. If you have time, by all means go, but if you find you won't have time to get up there, don't worry about it.
