Tochigi-ken Detailed Directions
Posted: Wed August 25, 2004 07:10 PM UTC
I am looking for detailed directions for my employer to travel by train from Narita Airport to the Hotel Twin Ring Motegi in Tochigi, Japan. He has never traveled alone in Japan and has a missing sense of direction, so the directions need to be very specific. Thanks!

The Twin Rings website has detailed directions as well as a map:
http://www.twinring.jp/english/information/access.html

From my personal experience which includes countless trips from Narita Airport to Utsunomiya. The best way to go from Narita Airport to Utsunomiya is via the Maronie Bus. It takes 2 hours and 50 minutes which seems longer on paper than the train. However the bus can be boarded just outside the main arrival lobby. It has ample space for your luggage (the train does not). And best of all, it allows you to avoid the maze which is Tokyo Station.

Have your employer take a copy of this page

http://www.chibakotsu.co.jp/kousoku/marronnier.htm

and at Narita Airport show it to someone at an information counter after exiting the customs area. They will be able to point your employer to the correct ticket counter from which to buy the bus ticket. The ticket should be from Narita Airport to Utsunomiya Station. (There are three arrival points in Utsunomiya so be certain that your employer gets off at the second stop which is Utsunomiya Train Station)

The bus stops on the west side of Utsunomiya station in front of the Chisan Hotel. If arrival is in the evening I suggest you make reservations at the Chisan and then take the bus ride to Motegi the following morning. The staff at the Chisan Hotel can give information as to the exact bus etc. The Twin Rings website states that the Motegi bus departs from bus stop 3 at 9:10am and arrives at Twin Rings at 10:38am. (the Twin Rings website lists other times and the weekend schedules as well)

Another convenient hotel is the Sun Route Hotel although the Chisan is still by far the easiest.

If your employer experiences any difficulties while in Utsunomiya I suggest they contact the Tochigi International Association:

Thank you for the extremely detailed instructions. This is exactly what I needed. As I have a boss who can very easily get lost! Again, thanks.
