| Ytterhogdal | Information asked about Ytterhogdal area Posted: Mon August 23, 2004 06:48 PM UTC
Hello fellow travelers. I am looking for as much information about the region of Ytterhogdal in the County Harjedalen In Sweden. We have bought a property there and have to travel from England to Sweden next year around April. All information is welcome rather to much and not relevant than none at all. Thank you for your time.
Kindest regards, Maria |

Welcome to Sweden!
I have never been to Ytterhogdal itself, but only in for instance Jämtland, north of this province. Stunningly beautiful and peaceful. The province of Härjedalen where this is, is the province with the highest ground in Sweden, but that's a bit further west, towards Norway. There you will find famous ski resorts such as Vemdalen and Funäsdalen. Härjedalen's only town is Sveg, not too far from Ytterhogdal and this is your main hub in summer, when the famous Inlandsbanan railway runs. It even runs through Ytterhogdal and trains stop there. The railway was built to transport people and freight through the Swedish inland, not very populated, and later came under financial stress because of this. It has been saved as a tourist attraction and enthusiasts are trying to get it back into all year action and have to a certain extent succeeded as far as freight goes. You can read more here: http://www.inlandsbanan.se/ I don't think that many tourists get off at Ytterhogdal but I'm sure some do since it stops there (with the rail card you can hop on and off the trains during your week going north). Your mainline train station for trains to Stockholm etc. will otherwise be in Ljusdal in the neighbouring eastern province of Hälsingland (along the main railway line Stockholm-the Highlands). The journey between Stockholm and Ljusdal is 3,5-4 hours. Trains are operated by SJ, the state railways: http://www.sj.se ...and by Connex http://www.connex.se/booking/booking_en There is also a "fast" coach from Stockholm called Härjedalingen: http://www.harjedalingen.se Since the entire province and county is an area people move FROM rather than TO, Härjedalen Council, just like several others around Sweden, has a "Moving In" service for newcomers. The e-mail address to them is: hans.svensson@herjedalen.se I'm sure Mr Svensson can tell you a lot more about your specific needs.

By the way, the reason people leave is only because of the job situation. They'd love to stay!
