| Galati | going to Tulcea from Galati by boat Posted: Sat August 21, 2004 03:24 PM UTC
Hi,
I need information on if it is possible to go from Galati to Tulcea by boat. How long will it take? Is there a ferry? My first 2 trips will be to Tulcea and Black Sea Here is my plan. I want to start on Saturday Sept 4th, 2004: take train to Galati and then work my way down to Tulcea (bus? ferry?). Spend the night in Tulcea and find a boat tour of the delta. Then, take the train to Constant and spend a day there. head back to Bucharest through Medgidia Is this a good idea? is it better to do it the other way( bucuresti to constanta, then Constanta to Tulcea (via Medigidia). find a way to Galati or Braila and come back to Bucharest by train. what I'm not sure of is how easy or hard it is to go from Galati or Braila to Tulcea (or vice versa). thanks for your advice. |

There are vans going from both Galati and Braila to Tulcea. However it would be easier to organize things the other way around, as in Tulcea all vans start from one point and it is easier to track things, especially not speaking the language. So you can go from Bucharest to Constanta by train, then take a train to Tulcea with a change in Medgidia (or a van directly, but they are as uncomfortable as one can get), then a van (there is no other way except for making a huge detour by train) to Galati / Braila and then a train to Bucharest. At present there are no ferries from Galati / Braila to Tulcea. Your trains are like this:
Bucuresti Nord Gara A - Constanta - Train no. 05.55-08.54 A1681 07.00-09.31 IC581 08.45-11.33 R681 14.30-17.12 IC583 17.35-20.33 R683 19.45-22.40 R685 Constanta 07.17 - Medgidia 08.01 P8202 Medgidia 08.52 - Tulcea 11.18 IC587 (working only on Fri, Sat, Sun) Constanta 16.05 - Medgidia 16.54 P8042 Medgidia 17.04 - Tulcea 20.39 P8653 Constanta 17.40 - Medgidia 18.25 P8342 Medgidia 19.37 - Tulcea 21.54 IC589 Galati - Braila - Bucuresti Nord Gara A - Train no. 05.45-06.16-09.13 IC572 05.05-05.50-11.09 P7002 12.00-12.31-15.28 IC574 17.30-18.07-21.16 A1672 18.10-18.41-21.38 IC576 23.58-00.48-06.08 P7012 In Tulcea the bus station lies just next to the train station, along the river. In Constanta buses to Braila / Galati / Tulcea / Bucharest go from near the railway station. In Braila buses start from near the railway station, while some odd vans start from near central Traian Square. In Galati the bus station lies on the crossing of Ana Ipatescu with Dogariei, but, as always in Romania, some vans start from the railway station. Best regards and have a nice trip, Alex alex@futurevox.com
