SF VT Meeting: Tying up the Loose Ends
Posted: Tue January 7, 2003 06:35 PM UTC
Hey all,

For those of you planning to attend the VT Meeting in SF: VIRTUALTOURISTS: UNPLUGGED AND UNSENSORED

Jan. 31-Feb. 2

Please let me know if you need any hotel rooms in the city. I am trying to see about blocking out a group of rooms at a special rate. Let me know what nights you need them for as well.

(This is only about hotels, dinner, and Alcatraz, folks! Let's save the *juicy* stuff for the Sultan's Tent on Saturday!)

See you soon!

Hi G_G,

Yes, I'd like a hotel room for Saturday night please! If another woman would like to share a room, I wouldn't mind sharing (but two double beds please).

Hey all,

I should be hearing something back regarding rates at the Hilton by tomorrow (hopefully).

In the meantime, I did see some rates on Expedia for some hotels that seemed to be pretty reasonable and in central locations:

The Pickwick Hotel on 5th St. - avg rate of $61.67 for the weekend of Jan 31st.

Holiday Inn Fisherman's Wharf - avg. rate of $95.67 per night

The Phoenix Inn (caters to Rock Stars...kinda funky) - avg. $95.67 per night. This one is sort of borderline to the Tenderloin.....but if ya'll stay as a group in a block of rooms, it shouldn't be too bad. We're hardly in the hotel, anyways (PLUS we have our "Boy Scout" Yubert close by!)

Anyways...those are some options, but I will still keep you posted with my contacts at the Hilton.

G_G,

Great info!

Perhaps Yubert will find a place to stay after all!

I was perusing the idea of a day tour to Sonoma/Napa valley on Sunday. Perhaps renting a bike and crossing the Golden Gate to Sausalito.

Geisha et al, what do you think?

Tania,

That's a *FAB* idea! I was just going to say how beautiful the weather has been here in the Bay Area these past few days. Almost spring--like weather!

I'm doing my chanting and dancing to the "gods" that we have the same kind of weather when ya'll come out here. If so, then a bike ride across the bridge would be ideal.........

If folks have the energy after Saturday night, that is....

Just my .02,

Rowangbr and I booked a room at the Hotel Metropolis through Priceline for $65. I'm told it is a charming hotel but not in the best of areas-about 5 blocks from Union Square, I'm not going to complain for that price. Hotwire had some other rates between $72 and $104 for 3 star hotels in the Wharf.

G_G Since I'm not able to attend on Firday night should I just give you my cell number in case plans change for the boat time the following morning?

Re: SF VT Meeting: Tying up the Loose Ends

Sure! You can do that Jenn....just send it via email.

Alcatraz! Yes....let's figure out the best time to catch the boat for that. I was wanting to wait until it's slightly closer to the date ....just in case the boats change their schedules. But I did hear that we should buy the tkts as soon as possible since they can get booked up.

The easiest way to do Alcatraz is to agree on a time....everyone just go online and buy their own tkts...and then we pick a meeting point that day and show up.

I'll peruse the schedules and throw out some options.

Great news on the belly-dancing front
Posted: Wed January 8, 2003 09:09 PM UTC
Okay, this isn't off-topic, because it's about Saturday night's entertainment. My girlfriend that teaches belly dancing has just responded to the evite, saying she'll be at dinner and on the bus. Rejoice, Yubert, you'll get some instruction if you're especially nice, I'm sure!

Alcatraz

Hey everyone,

I checked out the schedule for Alcatraz on Feb. 1st. You should be able to purchase your tickets online at

http://www.blueandgoldfleet.com/abcsc.htm

It's a 2 1/2 hour "self-guided" tour with audio. Since a lot of us may be attending the Buena Vista party on Friday night........it could be a "late" night........would 11:45am be a good time to head out to Alcatraz?

We could meet up at Pier 39..grab coffee and grub before getting on the boat......then set sail for the Rock.

That will give us a few hours on the island and some time leftover to play at Pier 39 if you wanted.

Let me know your thoughts before I post it on the Evite. Once the time is decided we should all just go online and purchase our tkts.

Room at the Inn
Posted: Thu January 9, 2003 06:10 PM UTC
Okay...so the Hilton rooms sound promising. I asked my contact about blocking say...about 5 rooms....and he thinks that he might be able to get me a sweet employee rate....still waiting to hear how "sweet it is." Would 5 rooms be enough I wonder? I'm asking for both Fri and Sat nights, but I know Jess only needs it for Sat night.....but I believe the rest of you need it for the 2 nights:

Yubert
CJ
Jenn
Seabiscuit
Jim35

Maybe I should ask for an additional room.....Let me hear how the rate is and I'll let ya'll know.

Also, questions have been fired back to me about a Web Cam. Yubert, do you still have that link of the locations for these? Maybe we can do our mug shots either Friday night after the Buena Vista, or Saturday afternoon after Alcatraz.

Let's try and see if we can entertain the VT masses who can't attend this prestigious, weekend of DECADENCE.

There's room at the BV, there's room at Alcatraz, there's room on the floor at El Mansour, and there's still room on the bus!!
(we still have 55 people who haven't made up their mind yet! )

Hope you can make all the activities!

Oh! Regarding the hotel rooms in the city.......My friend should be getting the info to me by tomorrow morning.

He says that he can get the rooms but it might be divided up between the Hilton and the Marriott.

Not sure how many rooms yet and what rate. Let's hope it's SWEEEET!

Great Eusko! We're still finalizing the schedule for the Alcatraz tour on Saturday, so we'll keep you all posted on times and meeting points that morning.

Okay.....now the not-so-good news on the hotels......

My contact replied back and said that The Marriott on 4th street is completely sold out. The Hilton on O'farrell has a few rooms available and of course, none of them are at employee rate.

Something big is going on in the city that same weekend as our VT MADNESS BLOWOUT.......even the *Four Seasons* is completely sold out! The nerve!!!!!!

My contact did mention a cute little hotel on Mason between O'Farrell and Geary, called King George. They have 5 rooms available with 2 double beds for $144 per night, just a queen is cheaper. Split that 4 ways, $36 per person per night.

Here's the phone# 415-781-5050.

Travelzoo was posting some specials on hotels in SF:

http://www.expedia.com/daily/promos/sanfrancisco/default.asp?rfrr=-8216

Sorry I couldn't have BETTER news on the rooms, guys!

Hi, All. Maria and I just signed up for a few of the festivities. I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but for those of you still looking for a place to stay, try the following link:

http://www.travelworm.com/hotel/HotelShowRates.asp

It shows rooms available at the Carlton Hotel at 1075 Sutter for $79/night. I've used this site a couple of times for really cheap deals in Las Vegas ($23 at the Stratosphere!) and San Diego. The only catch is that you deal directly with travelworm.com and not the hotel. So read the fine print carefully regarding refunds.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

This may have already been covered on another thread somewhere but did anyone realize that the VT meeting is the same weekend as Chinese New Year? There might be some great cultural events in China Town to take part in as well!
