Wanna go for Angkor in October?
Posted: Wed August 18, 2004 11:11 AM UTC
About October 19th I want to visit Angkor from Bangkok. I already found a tour for 246USD, 4 days, see for T"raveller2000 - Cambodia Circuit, 4 days" on http://www.infohub.com/TRAVEL/SIT/sit_pages/14759.html
Because I don't want to be alone all the time, I wanna ask if somebody is interested in joining me? Maybe some lonesome traveler, a couple or a whole group?
Please contact me for more information!

Love, Laura

Hi Laura!
We just got back and it was WONDERFUL! We didn't take a tour and I am not sure you need one.

1) It is easy to arrange a flight. There are about 5 a day. There are also busses - the tourist services in Bangkok can easily help you make reservations.

2) There is a great, friendly, safe, comfortable place to stay called "Dead Fish Tower" - a taxi or motocab can take you there from the airport for $5. Of course, they will tell you it is closed but - it is not - just insist that you have reservations and they will take you there. The transport is very easy to arrange and Siem Reap is close to the Wat grounds. I think you might find someone to travel with there.

I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Feel free!

Have a wonderful journey - I wish I could join you!!!

you can do it without tour

Laura,

I recommend that you don't take the tour. You can easily get a bus (or flight) straight to Siem Reap. On a bus you will find more travellers, and you may be able to hook up with someone there.
The entrance for Angkor is $40 for a 3-day-pass, and transport is easily arranged. We took mototaxis for $6 a day ($8 for on the day to Banteay Srey because it is further away).
I agree about the accomodation mentioned above, you can even sleep in a nice, safe guesthouse for $3 for a single room. We paid $4 for a double.

For any question, feel free to send a message to me. I just got back from Cambodia last month.

Thank you for your interesting answers!

Not to take a tour is really a new idea to me.. because I'm only 17 years old and I feel not to comfortable alone in a country like cambodia without everything organized before..
I don't really trust last minute organisation!

Hi,
I'm going there in November, what can you tell me about your trip, any good tips and or advice to offer? what is the exchange rate there, is it very cheap, also how much time do you recommend spending in angkor wat? I have 35 days to use between thailand and cambodia, my plan was 28 or so in pattaya and the rest in cambodia?

The exchange rate is steady 4000 riel to a dollar, but in Siem Reap you can pay almost everything in dollars.

For Angkor I would say you need at least 3 days (a 3-day pass is $40) to see the major temples and a few smaller ones. My parents are in their late 50's and were exhausted after 3 days. But 2 days is just not enough, especially when you know you will only go here once in your lifetime.

Finally I think you got me persuaded to start from Bangkok by bus and don't book anything from home.
I hope I'll be allright.
Thank you for your help!
