Hi!

As Frankfurt is located at the river Main and the river in Heidelberg is called Neckar there won't be a Rhine cruise available. The Rhine is somewhere completely different!

You could probably go from Strasbourg up north to Koblenz or something.

Remember, too, that trips upstream against the current take twice as long as trips downstream. The most scenic part of the Rhine is the stretch between Wiesbaden/Mainz and Koblenz. It takes you past the famous Lorelei rock, lots of castles and several picturesque towns such as Bacharach, St Goar and Boppard.

When I was working on a KD-cruise-ship (1980) on the river Rhine we always started in Basel came to Strasburg and furtheron we had a stop (but I do not remember the name of that place) and from there our passengers had an organized BUS-tour to Heidelberg.

So Heidelberg IS for sure on a Rhine-cruise of KD (and certainly also other lines) - although located plenty of Km apart from the Rhine.

We once also made an extra-tour to Frankfurt, so there must be a connection to the Rhine.

But I am also sure, you will not be able to go to all these 3 places with the same ship.

you can get the same effect along the rhine by renting a helicopter, renting a fast boat, in much less time. i think your time can be used much more effectively than a slow long cruise down the rhine. you can driving along the roads on both sides that runs near and parallel to the river and is farther away from the river than the big road near the rhine river. there are some great views of the river along the way there use to be some nice hiking trails with great views of the river along the way that run parallel to the rhine . with paths that lead down to towns on the river .you can park your car at a town .if you want to take your time take a pathway up to the hiking trail . hike down the trail to the pathway to the next town., or the next or the next. there use to be a trail that went from boppard to kolblenz. and and from boppard the other way about the same distance.
then take a boat back to your car.
look here and see if you can find a link for boppard ( www.towd.com)

ok palo you got me. if you really have to go near the rhine go ahead and take a cruise if that is what you like. but i think the cruise on the danube and the rivers in france are a better deal.

if they wish to take it slow they can drive the roads i talked about. the going is slow on them and i think the views of the castles are even better than from the river. if you take a pair of field glasses you can really get a good view of most of them.

from the river you get the view of most castles from under the gun looking up at them. at most of the stops along the roads i mentioned your are on a hill above them looking down a bit . i like this view better.
