| Lhasa | finding travel agent/group Posted: Tue August 17, 2004 02:44 PM UTC
Hello!
My sister and I are traveling to Kathmandu 2 November, and would like to go to Lhasa (one of these 8 day or so overland tours yada yada). I've found some budgeted tours online, but... Is it better to wait until we get to Nepal to find a tour? Will we find cheaper options or is it better to get a jump on it from here? We're living in Korea right now, and travel agent information is really limited! What can we expect to find re: info for tours in Nepal (probably Thamel area is our best bet?) Thanks a lot for the help! KTS and RES |

November is the tail end tourist season for Tibet, book as soon as you get to Kathmandu so that the travel agency can form a group for you and get proper visa and permit. When I was there in 2000, they required a minimium of 5 people in a group. Recently, I heard that you can form a group of 2 and go.
The agency we used was very good - they speak very good English, they deliver everything they promised and they have been around for a long time. Their office is right in front of Kathmandu Guesthouse in Thamel. It's called Green Hill Tours, Treks and Expeditions. E-mail: ghill@wlink.com.np Web site: www.greenhilltours.com.np Have a nice trip

Hi, if you have booked the air tickets of Kathmandu, I think you can go to there to find a travel agent. or you my contact us if you interest the following route:
Kathmandu/Lhasa/shigates/Tingri/Rongbuk Monastery/BC/Naylam Kathmandu. But if you have not booked the international air tickets, I suppose you may fly from Korea to Lhasa via Chengdu, there is direct fligjts from Korea to Chengdu. And this route can make you reasonable package. We operate Sichuan-Tibet line since 1987. If you need any information please feel free to conctact us SGBTIS by email: viewtibet@hotmail.com or visit our website: www.chinacolortour.com. And I think we can tailor the trip for you two.

I visited Tibet, going through Nepal, in late 2002. We were assisted on our trip by a local Nepali concessionarie, Crystal Mountain Treks. I was extremely impressed with them and would not hesitate for a moment to hire them again--and, indeed, hope to do so before long!
In fact, if you're interested, when I came home, I wrote a lengthy "memoir" of the trip. You can access the entire detailed travelogue at another website (it's an Adobe document because it is nearly sixty pages long!). The entire things is posted at http://www.crystalmountaintreks.com/davidgordon.pdf Check out their homepage and feel free to write me if you have questions. Good luck!
