Nijmegen Travel Forum

I just recently moved to Nijmegen. Before moving here I had a job in Zwolle and now that I am here I am having a difficult time finding work since I cannot speak the Dutch language.

The only jobs really available are cleaning jobs. Can someone help me? I will do precatically anything else... production, warehouse....etc.

I've been to many job centres and still not a good turn out. Please help!!

Hi Lindsay i looked at your home page , you are a brand new member welcome to VT, this might not help you much but one time I was in your position , long time ago all alone in Canada no job money almost gone , it all worked out.
Do not give up take any job you can find till something better shows up
As for not speaking the language , almost every body speaks some English in Holland, and they love Canadians in Holland , Hang in there good things will happen .

Hi and I wish you all the best settling in this country. I moved here in 1980 and could not speak Dutch when i arrived. I was lucky as a nurse to find a job in nursing. Perhaps you could try "uitzendbureaus"and do temping for a while. Or look for an international firm where English would be the used language. But do try and learn Dutch as it does make life easier. It can be done.... I was never any good at languages and now I speak Dutch all the time. Try reading magazines - the short sentences and photos help you understand what is in the text.

I know some of the bars in nijmegen do not mind employing people who can only speak English, and these typically do not use job centres. But you would have a better chance during summer of course....

Well I was successful finding a good job and worked for over a month to make enough money, thank you all for your help! :)

But now there's another problem....
me and my boyfriend are forced to move out of our home in Nijmegen since its an "Anti-Kraak" place and the owner wants to do renovations... we need a place to stay only for one month. We've put up several ads and asked around but still nothing, its difficult!

Does anyone know anything? A room, apartment??
