Lao Cai Weather in Sapa
Posted: Mon August 16, 2004 05:24 AM UTC
I'm traveling to Sapa at the beginning of Sept. What will the weather be like? Should I take hiking boots or will tennis shoes be adequate for day trekking? Thanks

I dont know about the weather then, in Sapa, are you taking a tour or independent?. Cat Cat village now has pretty good path & you do a circuit, 1hr or more depending on fitness etc..., that being the case I would take sandals/tennis shoes. Take bathers if hot, there is a waterfall/stream to swim at.
You can also hire jeeps that take you to different villages more remote, here you may need hiking boots.Sapa appears to be quite commercial, the locals try selling you gear while youre eating. Have some good clothes, just be aware that the dye runs, told wash in saly 1st?.
I have a small number of photos on www.trekshare.com/members/neilzonwheelz
Bac Ha has an interesting market & the road trip is quite scenic.

We were there late Sept 03 and found the weather to be pleasant no rain. We took sneakers/tennis shoes/trainers whatever you call them just for walking in Sapa but we could of walked in sandals. We did a full day trekking and a motor bike back up!!! it is a hell of a walk it took about 15 mins on the bike!!! It is not strenuious and you will come across a few little streams etc where you feet may get wet. It is very beautiful in Sapa watch out for th old Hmong ladies selling silver and white powder in little plastic bags!!!! we went for the silver.
