Anyone recognise this fruit?
Posted: Sun August 15, 2004 08:39 AM UTC
I bought three on a stick from a food stall selling chilled sliced fruits at a food court in Tang Plaza on Orchard Rd. They tasted yummy, but I have no idea what it was. I think the seller called it "Tepok" or something, but I may be mistaken. They look a bit like jackfruit, but I'm not too sure about that either. Maybe someone in the forum can tell me?

Sorry, it's a bit blurry. I had just bought a new cam in S'pore and I was still working out how to use it (I forgot the macro setting here).

Hi knerten

the picture shows a strong resemblance of jackfruit ;) Is there a strong aroma from the fruit. If there is , it is certainly jackfruit! The fruit seller usually de-seed the fruit so that they can string them on a stick . Hope it helps ;)

cheers,
joyce

Thanks, guys. It does have a strong flavor, a bit like banana with a peachy texture. Jackfruit was the best I came up with myself, but it seemed a lot less yellow then the ones I can buy canned, so I was a bit confused. Never having been to Asia, let alone seeing a jackfruit, I was just curious what delight I was eating.
I'll have more next time around, that's for sure...

Hm, no, must look for that next time in S'pore. Wonder if I can find them at Changi? (Since I'm flying through there tomorrow on my way back to Norway, and that will probably be my last visit to Asia for some time...sob).
