Certainly possible, I did it some years ago, but not in one go. You'll probably have to change in Guangzhou. More interesting could be a boat to Wuzhou and then overland. If you like that kind of thing...

I agree the other people says and i think that is better you take the train from Guangzhou to Nanning and the train takes around 19 hurs.
the train number is 271 and the deputure time is 14:55
from Guangshoi to Nanning.

Another thing is i think you shoud come to Yangshuo also,Yangshuo is the one of the most beatiful area in the world and for more detail about Yangshuo you can visit the website as below:

I'd agree with that for sure- I went there a few times between 92 and 95, it was a great place, although it changed so much between those times, I'm certain it'll be vastly different now. There's also a bus from Wuzhou to Yangshuo, so it makes sense!
