| Mainz | Hahn Airport to Frankfurt International Posted: Fri August 13, 2004 08:30 PM UTC
Q: Hi everyone,
I have a few questions you may be able to answer. I am flying on Ryan Air to Frankfurt Hahn Airport at 1930hrs (7:30pm) on Dec 11. The next day at 2000hrs (8pm) I fly out from Frankfurt International (FRA) . We are taveling with a baby so no night life for us. Q: How can we get to Frankfurt International form Hahn Airport. Is there a train station we can walk to from Hahn Airport? Q: Do we need to reservations for the train? Q: We have a day to sight-see on the 11th and on the way back, the 23 we'll have another day, what are the "Must See" in the area. I'd love to see a castle, any suggestions? Q: Any nice but cheap hotels near both airport? Q: Are the actual names of the cities in which the airports are located? Thank You for all your Help, Vanessa |

There is nor train station close to Hahn, as far as I know- There is, however, a bus service into Frankfurt and maybe even to Mainz - Ryanair's website should know...
Hahn Airport is situated in a tiny place called Lautzenhausen, the nearest place of any size being Mainz and Koblenz. Frankfurt international Airport is just south of the city itself.

Thanks for the prompt information. I'm gald you could tell me the name of the city that Hahn Airport is in, I was getting so confused. Ryan Air has it listed like if it was in Frankfurt too. I checked Ryan Air website and I could find anything for Hahn.
Thank You, Vanessa

| Mainz | must sees Posted: Fri August 13, 2004 11:12 PM UTC
Hi,
Try to get a ferry cruise schedule to sail down the Rhine river. This is the time to do it! There are various routes with views of castles along the river. Otherwise, if you have time Wiesbaden City near by should be very beautiful. Or just explore the downtown of Mainz.... Good luck, Laerke

I checked again with my route planner and that gives me a 124 kilometer distance between Frankfurt and Hahn, 86 km between Hahn and Mainz. Try Map24 or any other mapservice on the internet for a map to get you more information...

Hi,
rhine cruises are nice, but not in December. Actually, i dont know, if there a couple of boats are running. THere is a airport bus shuttle to Hahn-Airport, going from Mainz, or Frankfurt International. Check the side ryanair.com or http://www.hahn-airportshuttle.de/. In Dezember, there are many Weihnachtsmärkte around. For hotel, see the www.hrs.com, they do have good internet faires. If you can afford it by time, take a car and go Rheingau (access from Wiesbaden) to explore the 30 KM there. Nice tinny towns with wine chataux. Cu

Hahn airport is in Lautzenhausen, approx. 125 km west of Frankfurt. Hahn is another close by village, because of easier spelling this name was choosen when this ex-military airbase was founded.
http://www.hahn-airport.de Here a link where you can find more shuttle bus connections (besides Mainz and Frankfurt also to Koblenz.) http://www.bohr-omnibusse.de/en/home.php For hotels near the airport check the airport homepage. Frankfurt International Airport is close to the city center of Frankfurt (12 minutes by S-Bahn). Thus no need to stay close to the airport. And alternative is also to stay in Mainz (the airport is between Mainz and Frankfurt). http://www.mainz.de Mainz is nice and a must see this time of the year is of course to visit the Chrismas Market. You could also travel via Koblenz and from/to there along the Middle Rhine Valley. http://www.welterbe-mittelrheintal.de You'll see lot's of castles. But normally they are closed in winter, and some should definitly not be visited if there is snow or ice (too risky steep uphill walks). Moselle valley is also very nice (Trier, Bernkastel, Cochem, Eltz Castle). But really more enjoyable from May - October. Mainz to Koblenz by train is EUR 22,50 (RB train) to 26,70 (IC trains) for you (family with 2 adults, children under 15 are free). Interruption of the journey is possible. The 23rd December will be an extremly busy day in Germany.
