Parque Nacional do Iguaçu Some advice on visiting the Falls please!
Posted: Fri August 13, 2004 01:40 PM UTC
Hi,
I'm planning a visit to the falls as part of my trip to Brazil. A few questions:

1) Can anyone recommend a good area to stay in that's not too far from the falls? Is Foz city the best?

2) I've read that you don't really need to book a tour to see the falls on the Brazillian side but that it's recommended for the Argentine side. Is this correct?

3) Is it cheaper and easier to book tours to the falls when I'm in Brazil or should I book from home in advance?

4) If I wanted to see the falls by air where could I do this from? Who can I book it with and is it expensive?

5) I keep reading about the Macuco safari but I'm not sure what it is, can anyone explain?

Sorry for so many questions! I'm hoping to travel well informed and prepared! I'll be there for probably two days if anyone wants to suggest an itinery!

Thanks!

1) If money is no objection, the Sheraton Foz Iguacu right in the park on the Argentine side - no question about it. Even otherwise with the devaluation, it will run you approx $110 a day.
I have also heard that the Tropical Catarasas on the Brazilian side is very good.

2) Take the Grand Adventure side on the Argentine side. You have a choice of two tours - The Great adventure and the rafting tour. The great adventure is not to be missed. You can get right underneath the falls.

3) I would think the latter. Book from Brazil or Argentina.

4) From the argentine side, it is not available. I think it is avilable from the bRazilian side.

5) do not know.

Two full days should be just about sufficient to see everything. However if you want a trek to the San Martin islands there, it takes a full additional day.

There are a few pics on my HP.

Hi!

If you want this info, you can check my Iguassu pages:

http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/54d1b/177d3c/

http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/54d1b/1722ac/

There you can find the info about the safari (I did not take the Macuco, but I did the same one on the Argentinian side, called Gran Aventura), and I took the helicopter too.
You MUST visit both National Parks; you can stay inside the park (there are hotels), or at Foz or at Puerto Iguazu.

VT member "acemj" has excellent pages with a lot of info as well.

Enjoy the falls,
Andrea

Hi,

Most people go for 2 or 3 days. I would reccommend you stay at the Bourbon Caratas, it is a great hotel. The Tropical das cataratas is good too but the only advantage it has over the Bourbon is that is inside the park.

As for things to see I would suggest the falls of course, the park it self is fantastic for walking around. They have a ride there called Macuco Safari, it is unbelivable, the boat goes realy near the falls, sometimes you think is going to turn, there is a lot of adrenaline, they also have rafting there, but is not my thing so i didn't do it. There is also the Itaipu Dam, the world’s largest power station, the Bird Park, and the Jesuits’ ruins on both Brazilian and Argentinean sides of the border.

Why don't you have a look at the Discover brazil site they can give you more information.
