I am looking to visit Penang in June 2005 - is this Monsoon season...I'm getting varied reports! Also, what are the "must sees"? Is it a good honeymoon spot? Want to relax, swim, eat good food, drink good wine, but also experience the culture.

Replies gratefully received!

Thanks

Penang is basically an island with settlers...and lots of factories...There's really only a section where the beaches are quite nice (not for swimming or snorkelling) but more for the sunset. If you have time. you can get to Langkawi, an island resort nearby Penang. Malaysia has many other nice and paradize-like beaches with clear water and colour marine life...but not at penang.
Not a honeymoon spot for me....Food will be the local Malaysian food and the hotels do serve wine but not on the street stalls where you will experience the local culture and food...whether you like Penang depends a lot on where you are from.....

dont worry Langkawi is just 2 hours ferry ride from Penang ....if you want nice beach, snorkelling or scuba diving.

penang is famous for its cultural heritage and is notorious for her food :-)

Penang island is what my family love most in Malaysia. We will travel there during our vacation. It has a lot of historical places. Tourist attractions are like Kek Lok Si Temple, Batu Feringghi (beach), Gurney Drive (local food for tourists), Komtar etc.
If you want a honeymoon spot, do stay at Rasa Sayang hotel or hotels which nearby Batu Feringghi (like Golden Sand...).
