| Kotor | DUBROVNIK-KOTOR Posted: Fri August 6, 2004 04:05 PM UTC
I shall shortly spend a short holiday at Dubrovnik, Croatia. From there I would like to visit Kotor, Montenegro/Serbia. What transportation (if any) exists between them? Do I have to rent a car to do the trip? Is there a bus line? A boat line? Thx yr help.

There is an Atlas day tour from Dubrovnik that takes you to Kotor, then to some old capital & then to Budva & back to Dubrovnik.
You dont get much time in each place but its hassle free & a insight. I believe there is also a local bus run, check on Lonely planet forum.

The day tour takes you to: Kotor - Njegusi - Cetinje - Budva - Tivat and back to Dubrovnik. It is only a day tour but still enough time to explore all this places.
I am not sure about, but it seems there is a regular bus line between Dubrovnik and Kotor now.

Bus leave at 11am from Dubrovnik heading for Ulicnj via Kotor, Budva and Bar.
It goes to the border where you walk accross no mans land to the Montenegrian side where you take another bus. The bus leaves Kotor at 13:15, same deal, switching buses at the border, as no state bus crosses it therefore you cant do a day trip on public transport, it involves staying a night. hope this helps, current info as of early July.

My friend and I did exactly this in Oct 2004. Since our hotel in Dubrovnik was near the bus station we decided to get the 11.00am (once daily) bus straight to the border with Montenegro. However, once here you have to diessembark and show your passport to the border control and tell them where you are going next, which isn't as daunting as it sounds. Then the journey continues in a connecting all the way to Kotor, where you get amazing views before arriving at the rather grim bus station. The Hotel Fjord is nearby and is a good place to stay. However our return trip was more tricky as the staff there speak little English and again there is only one daily bus leaving at about 1pm. The trouble we encountered was some sort of timetable problem with catching the connecting bus back from the boder to Dubrovnik. It took 30 mins to arrive and then wouldn't start for another 30 mins, so don't whatever use this route to go to the nearby airport on your final day or if you need to get back to Dubrovnik in a hurry!
