Pantanal Pantanal Trip ?
Posted: Thu August 5, 2004 08:00 PM UTC
3 of us will be travelling all over Brazil during August & September, using an airpass. We want to see the pantanal, so we have booked a flight into Campo Grande and we leave 5 days later.

Will it be easy to book a 3 or 4 day tour/trip into the pantanal, once we arrive in Campo Grande?
Are there any good companies that we should look for, or bad ones we should avoid?
How much will a trip into the pantanal cost?

Thanks for your help

There are several pousadas within three to six hours of Campo Grande. My favorite is Refugio Ecologico Caiman, four hours by mini-bus from the airport. The cost is $200 (double) or $250 (single) per night, plus $90 round-trip for the bus.

Caiman is high-end; but it's worth the cost. Its facilities, services, and activities are far better than other pousadas I've visited.

You can make reserfvations on-line at
www.caiman.com.br/
or through any of several travel agents on the net (e.g., bronline, brazilparadise, brazilnuts).

At the airport itself some tour companies have booths at which you can book stays -- but you may find the pousada you want has no vacancies. It's really better to have a reservation already before you arrive in CG.

Hello,

Unfortunately, I only started using the VT well after you posted this. I actually do tours to the Pantanal. Please send me who you went and how your trip, it will be interesting to see. Some people we hear from have some real horror stories and we try to avoid those. If you plan on booking another Pantanal trip and need great prices, with full accomadtions please e-mail me at Brasil66@accesstoledo.com
