Off the Beaten Path in China & Japan
Posted: Wed August 4, 2004 11:04 PM UTC
I am new to this site but it seems like there is a lot of great info. My friend and I are looking to go to China and perhaps Japan in October. We heard the weather is pretty good and the high season is over. We will be backpacking and staying in hostels. We are looking to visit some of the big cities but would like to make it out into the country and just hang out and explore. Any and all info would be very helpful either on what to do in the big cities and the country and things to be careful of. Serious thanks. Would love to chat if possible.

Check out my Japan pages. I have some info on big cities as well as places in the country. Most of the places I've been to are in the Kansai area of Japan (Osaka, Kobe, Himeji, Kyoto, etc).

Hi there,

If you are looking for off the beaten path then I recommend Kyushu and Shikoku islands in Japan. Take a look at my many and varied Japan places and you will find heaps of interesting places you can go (other than the obvious!!). I also recommend Nagano (in any season is fantastic but especially winter!).
