osaka: one night/one day

Hello! I will be arriving in Osaka on Monday around 9:30pm and need to find a hotel to stay at. Any recommendations? I would like a place that is easily accessible from Kansai and around 6,000 yen or less. I think that Kansai is kind of on the outskirts (on an island?), and was wondering about the public transportation from the airport to the city. Is it connected via bus, train, subway? What time does the public transportation stop? (In case my flight is delayed and I come in later.) I will be in Osaka for only one day and have to be at the ferry terminal Tuesday around 10:30pm. Any suggestions for sight-seeing/activities for one day? Thanks!

KIX (Kansai Int'l Airport) is on a manmade island. There is a JR station there though. Once you get out of customs into the main terminal area you will see signs to buses & trains. Not sure when the buses stop running but the trains run till a little past 12am. Don't worry about it though. If there is a flight coming there, there is always transportation out to the city.
Where is the ferry terminal you are talking about? In Osaka or Kobe?
I have only taken the train from the airport once. The buses are very convenient as well. Prices are about the same. DON'T take a taxi though, unless you are super rich.
Signs are in Japanese & English so you won't have problems getting out of the airport & getting to your final destination. If you take the bus, announcements are in both Japanese & English as well. JR trains from the airport will have displays in Japanese & English too.
Check out my Osaka pages for things to do. I guess it depends on where you will be staying...

I would suggest you take the Airport Limousine Coach to Osaka from Kansai Airport.

Is cheaper and as convenient.

You may want to visit the Osaka Castle if you are not planning to visit Himeji Castle. There are some temples there and be sure you visit the shopping area at Dontoburi.

In my experience, if flights are delayed, the airlines arrange buses from the airport to Umeda in central Osaka. My airline also refunded the taxi ride I had to get from Umeda to my appartment. So don't worry too much if your flight is late.

I agree Osaka Castle park is worth a look. If your ferry is leaving from the Osakako ferry terminal, that would put you on the doorstep of the Osaka Aquarium where you could easily spend 2 hours a convenient distance from your departure point.

Have fun!
