Banjul Practical questions about The Gambia
Posted: Sat July 31, 2004 03:19 PM UTC
- who can advise me a reliable male or female guide who can show me round in The Gambia ? How and where can we meet him/her ? Please not a bumster of hustler as they are called over there.

- what type of plug sockets are used in The Gambia ?
It is the British type (three flat pins) or the
European type (2 round pins) ? In other words do we
need to bring plug adapters with us ?

I have been to the Gambia many times and as for getting a guide I would strongly advise you to be very careful as some of the official guides are ex Bumsters in uniform, if you ask one of the english reps to recomend one as they will know a lot of the locals.
as for the eletric plugs take both with you or a adapter.
hope you have a nice holiday Gambia is a beautyful place and the locals are nice too.

Hello,

That is why I also warned! My experience is more than 10 years. We work only with people in the Gambia, who we know very good and who are not hustlers or bumsters.
I am always ready to advise!

Hiya, me and my partner went to the Gambia, 5 years ago, we had our guide from the hotel, they recommended us to him, he was lovely, couldnt have wished for a nicer person, he took is to the maket in the day, and at night, we visited a local disco/pub, which was very eye opening !!!!

Also we went on a trip to visit the school children, and they love pens/paper, and sweets, as they dont get much of that over there, they are all so sweet, but living in horrible conditions, it will definately be an eye opener for you if you havnt been before.

But alas, the people are very friendly, and i mean friendly, they are always coming up to you on the beach, sometimes this can be annoying, so there are parts of the beach were they are not allowed to bother you, but still they are only being friendly.

Hope you have a nice time !!!

Oh yes one more trip we went on was to a crocodile park, were you can actually stroke them it was cool !!!

Do you know what hotel are you going to stay in?

I loved Gambia when I was their and the "hustlers" are not as bad as everybody is saing. They are unemployd trying to make some money and we have to give them respect to get respect from them.

We didnīt take a "hustler" as our guide but a friend of mines brother showed us around.( his sister is living in Sweden and we used to work together.)

Anyway he told us that if we wanted a guide the once in the hotels are some of the best once. They have got experiance and most of them have been to school to learn how to be a guide. So I would say if you want a guide you should take one from the hotel.

When are you going? If their is anything more you want to know you are wellcome to ask. Have a nice time in the Gambia :-)
