Hi, I would suggest taking the "Cal Train". It is a commuter train that runs up and down the "peninsula". The peninsula is the west side of the southern half of San Francisco Bay. The trains run all day and there are some "express" trains that do not make all the stops.

The train station in SF, is only ten minutes from downtown SF and you can take a bus or taxi to get to downtown, from there you can take cable cars to fishermans wharf or taxis and busses to anywhere in the city.

Hope this helps...Matt

That's what I'd do too, other than renting a car.

The CalTrain station in San Francisco is one block away from SBC Park, too, if you want to catch a Giants baseball game.

You know, I've never taken the train (I live North of San Francisco, and the train doesn't come here). But if you have a car? It's not a long drive...

thanks - and do u think the parking will cost more than the train?

if its about the same ofcourse the car will be much more easier - i just remember the parking prices r really expensive....

or r there any parking spaces that r not center located (then ill park there and take a bus or something - is that a good idea?

thanks alot :-)

I went to http://www.511.org and played with their Trip Planner. It was my first time playing with it, but it looks like if you drive to the Sunnyvale CalTrain station, it'll take you to the SF main CalTrain station and back for $4.25 each way. Looks like it takes 1 hour 10 minutes...

Now you could also head up Highway 280 North, follow the signs to the Golden Gate Bridge, get off at the Marina Exit, park for free in the Marina Green parking lot and wander around on foot. Or you could also go up Highway 280 North, go to Ocean Beach and park there and wander around on foot and by bus. Both of those parking lots have free parking without time limits. The Ocean Beach one is farther away from downtown and a lot of the tourist sites (except for The Beach Chalet, Cliff House, Golden Gate Park and the Zoo), but it's convenient to hop on MUNI, the city bus system. The Marina Green is where locals tend to jog, play frisbee, volleyball, etc., the yacht clubs are there, incomperable views of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge, and is within walking distance of Fort Mason, Ghiradelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, and if you really like to walk, Pier 39. On the other hand, I'm not sure where to grab the bus from there.
